after i sell my car i want to get a new truck (and a bike), problem is i have no idea what i want. it will be a daily driver/work truck. only things i don't want are a single cab or a 4 cyl. or a 2 wheel drive. i only want to spend 4500 or less. does this seem like a good deal? http://lancaster.craigslist.org/cto/1507280436.html :ermm: idk though i've never had a high mile vehicle, but my friend has an 02 silverado 1500 with like 210000 on it and that still runs great.

i also really thought about a wrangler, either an older cj7 (they came with a 304 right?) or a newer 4.0. but for my price range i didn't find much i like :ermm:

High miles doesn't mean anything if maintained. Personally, I'd prolly stay away from that Dakota. Looks a little beat to me. :ermm:

I have been looking at Jeeps to replace my mustang but decided a Cherokee will suit my needs better(better security for my gear at the races etc) Supposed to go look at an 06 Laredo with the v8 tomorrow.

I think if I get another jeep I will look for an older CJ7 and restore it. Tons of fun offroad with them.

grand Cherokees just arent built the same as cherokees its more then just the trim package. with your budget you can find a good 97-00 xj. or you could always go the s10/ ranger rout. the best part about jeeps is they have a great after market and there longarm lift kits are pretty sweet. but you start to wheel it to hard and you will have to worry about the unibody but with you saying you just want it as your dd it will be fine.

this video made me want a xj but then i decided to get a s10 cuz i didnt want to load a trailer every time i took the quad somewhere. also get the 4.0L they last forever.

yea i love the inline 6s in those jeeps, from what i hear from people they're one of the best engines ever made.

and yea an older CJ would be cool, my friend has an 85 CJ7 that hes done a lot of work too, its a really cool jeep.

and i know i said i'd like a 4WD but i came across this...

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1496088884.html

i don't know a lot about the dodges. i know the trannys are pretty bad i guess. are the 5.9s good engines? what about the 5.2s? i would maybe try to find a dakota 5.2

... Oops. Better look at the pic a little closer next time.:eek2:

Bout the 5.9, It is a good motor. But don't totally rule out a 3.8 V-6 if you're liking the dakotas. A friend of mine had one with a 5spd and 3.73 gears. Little truck would scoot on pretty good.

The Dakota R/T like you posted is a sweet truck. They would have been really cool if they would have made them with a 5 speed. Once in a great while you can find a 5.2L Dakota with a 5 speed. My buddy has a 2wd quad cab Dakota with a 4.7 and a 5 speed, and it runs extremely well.

This was my first truck, 94 Toyota. I wish I hadn't wrecked it.

I have had 2 of the Toyotas with that bodystyle, a 92 v6, and the 94 in the picture. Those trucks are bulletproof. They aren't fast, but they will go just about anywhere, and did I say they're bulletproof?

You can find them all day from $3000-$4500. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 200,000 mile Toyota pickup. The 92 that I bought had 207,000 on it and when I sold it it had 260,000 something.

It's still going strong with about 300,000 miles last I heard.

http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt89/j_cyrus3/toyota-1.jpg

that one lived a short life of 175,000 miles. I sold the motor out of it though and it's still going strong as far as I know.

My dad has an 04 wrangler and I wish i had one of my own. I drive it when ever I want basically (he doesnt like that, but when you leave your keys laying around...lol)

Its a 4.0 with a 5 speed. The thing is a ball to drive. He has 31x 10.5 on it so it doesnt look too much like the typical jeep. I should have taken it from him when he told me if I could make the last two years of payments that it would be mine.

i had an f150, with an i6 in it. i never had a problem with it. super reliable truck, big enough to haul bikes/quads and the milage stock was decent.. you can find them for less than 3k with low miles..

keep your eye out though.. i just picked up a 99 f250 SD 7.3 powerstroke for 5,000 cash in excellent condition... theres deals out there you just gotta be patient!

I have a Dakota R/T... If you have any questions about them post them up and I'll try to answer them for you.

If you go look at that truck, ask him if the fuel pump has been replaced as well as the ball joints. Pretty much all Dakotas have garbage ball joints and everyone replaces them.

They're horrible on gas even if you keep your foot out of it but it hauled my quad great and barely caused the rear suspension to droop with the quad loaded in the back.

Edit- Didn't read your part about the engines lol... Yes, the 5.9 is a stout engine. Lots of torque. Everyone seems to like theirs on the boards. I've heard the 5.2 is also a good engine, but I can't comment on that because I've never driven one with the 5.2.

you have been lucky the frames where still in one piece. I would not recommend a Toyota.

edit i guess it was only 95-2000 that they recalled all tacoma's but there have been many complaints about previous years frames rusting out.

I had a 99 Tacoma that I turned in for that recall and recieved 1 1/2 price kbb excellent value. Bought the truck for 7,000 and got a little over 13,000 three years later. So why would you not reccomend Toyota again?

well i'm still undecided about what i want to get. its mostly between that dodge r/t and a wrangler. :ermm:

some people are coming tomorrow to look at my car, they are pretty serious about it. anyone else have trouble selling their first car? i was cleaning the mustang up all evening and the whole time having second thoughts. i have so many memories in that car :ermm: hope its not too emotional lol

It kind of bothered me to sell my first truck- '95 Ford Ranger extended cab 4cyl 5 speed. It was a great little truck, gave $2000 for it, put 50,000 miles on it in three years and got my money back. Either it is broken down, or the guy I sold it to has no use for it any more because it never leaves the spot he has it backed into in the ally behind his house. I make sure its there everytime I'm home. I'm sure I'll own it again someday as a keepsake lol.

I would rather not buy a vehicle that i know is s*** and have to deal with all the hassle to get money back from it. also that was back when they were trying to cover up there mistake now there just giving u kbb value from what ive heard. also they dont total all of them they fix some sorry but if my frame is rusting in half i wouldn't want that patched up when its bound to rust again somewhere else.

uh.... what?

Toyota is buying back ALL of the 95-00 trucks if the frame fails inspection. kbb + half, NO QUESTIONS. Plus, you can strip everything off of the vehicle that you have put on it.

On the 01-04 they are REPLACING the FULL frame. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

What is Chevy, Dodge, or Ford going to tell you when your frame rots in half? Tough shi+ is what they would say.

Don't dog a Toyota, they're probably one of the most reliable brands on the road.

Exactly! Maybe some people should listen to facts that a person actually experianced and not something they heard from their aunts cousins half brother. All frames eventually rust out but toyota is going out of their way for their customers. My frame wasn't even in bad shape but they still did it. I'd say a company that recalls things they know are wrong is the kind of company anyone should deal with.

If not I'm going to find a used powerstroke somewhere.
