i have a 2001 400ex and i was getting a horrible blue smoke, lack of power, and my oil tank was dry after a few hours of riding. i ripped the engine apart and found that the cam lobes were a little worn down. i never checked the compression before i took it apart, so i just ordered a new piston and ring set. i also ordered a hotcams stage 2 cam. i heard that when you do a stage 2 cam you should use a higher compression piston too. so i got one of those . i got new valve seals and orings to stop the oil from entering in the combustion chamber. my valves and and piston are covered with a black heavy debris...im assuming its carbon deposits caused bye excessive oil leaking into the cylinder. is there some chemical i can use to remove those deposits? i tried a brake cleaner and that didnt work. any reccomendations?

I usually have to scrub it with a wire brush to get it all off. And de-greaser.

i just want to make sure a wire wheel wont damage the valve surface. how about the head itself?

whatever you do, do not touch the gasket sealing surface.
