looking at a 400ex. HELP!

im thinking of picking up a 1999 400ex with a 440 big bore kit. what should i be looking for? common 400ex problems, common 440 problems, common model year 1999 problems ect.

check bearings dent in frame make sure everything works just like you would a lawn mower most people just throw a 440 kit on from la sleeve or someplace like that to me it's not built right but see if it has after market head studs or see if any of the gaskets on the top end leak if it smokes on start up pulls good in every gear make sure if it was washed after every ride that's all i can think of

Ask him who did the machining on the cylinder and the install (mechanic or himself), were HD studs installed, compression of the piston, if he's done regular maintenance, how many hours since the last service, then ride it and listen for anything that doesn't sound right or out of place.
