The solenoid was bad on my 04 400ex, so I bought a used one off of a member on here. In the mean time of waiting for it it come in, I was just jumping it with a screwdriver off solenoid. Then one time I went to start it and it did nothing when I touched the soleniod. SO i push started it and it ran fine. Changed solenoid, now it jsut clicks when I try to start it. when I try with screwdriver, it just sparks and doesnt do anything. stariter is good also. the wires are hot, its like its not going through the solenoid. any ideas?? thanks, neil

Your battery could be junk.

battery is brand new. I went have it check at autozone and the guy said it was showing all volts or however they measure it. when I would hold the start button, the negative wire would start smoking. I put new terminals and it STILL just clicks

There's a loose wire somewhere then.

if i were you i would take the batery out and clean the terminals and the connectors then take off the neagative wire and clean where it grounds

I don't see how I could have put it on backwadsr? Its color coded and female goes to male and male goes to female. I will try to get a better connection

You may have a burned up starter.

when the problem started, I took the starter apart and it WAS bad, so I put a good one and same problem..

dude youv got a serious short somewhere, you probly burnt up the starter because of that and at the rate your goin you could damage the battery too. check all wiring. find a good starting point and go through every wire on that thing, something has either chafed and rubbing the frame or possibly wires melted together somewhere. stop playing with parts and start looking at the wires

Id be pretty surprised if it isnt a wiring problem

well my ***** sucking friend took a look at it, and said its because "I" broke the post on the starter that the wire bolts on to. Would this be causing my problem??

is it broke off completely, is it half connected, be more specific, is the post touching the engine or frame? ya thats probly got something to do with it
