I recently put a Athena big bore kit in with 13.1:1 compression, but had serious detonation on the dyno. We only have 95 octane and race fuel in SA only goes to 98 and very expensive,so I used NF Race Fuel Mix octane booster. Add 20ml per litre and pushed the octane to about 101 and solved the problem.

I think the rule of thumb on this is 12:1 or 12:5:1. And the 12:5:1 is pushing your luck.

if i go 12-5-1 could i run octane booster with my gas? or if i buy race gas could i go half tank race gas half a tank pump?

If you dont run the correct octane fuel, you will rob the engine of horsepower, even less than stock. Various other problems, like overheating and cracking pistons. With the NF race fuel octane booster, there is other additives like accelerators which assist with combustion. I must say, that with the NF octane booster and the additives,my valves are lasting longer without setting it. I check it every 5-10 hours and havent set it yet. In total I have done about 60-70 hours without setting the valves,so there is no valve deteriation to date
