I have an '03 400ex and want to go ride in the dunes. I need to know what tires I should get. I just moved from dirtbikes to quads and am still trying to figure stuff out. Only modifications are 42 and 155 jets with full curtis sparks exhaust and k&n filter.

I have some Kenda Sand Gecko Pluses that I got for free with my bike. They are decent, could hook up better, though. Skat~Traks are supposed to be really nice. I'd like to get a pair of Haulers (http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&priceRange=allPrices&navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webTypeId=138&webCatId=8&brandId=254&prodFamilyId=6053#vehicleSelect), supposed to have excellent hook up.

20x10x8 Eight paddle skat haulers. I absolutely love them for all types of riding and throw some killer sand. The 10" rim works too but the 8" hooks much better and rides smoother.

I'd recommend ITP Sand Stars. Good all around duner paddle. If you want a drag paddle, go with Haulers or Extrememes. I would think a 400EX with your mod list could not go with more than a 8 paddle staights. Also, bring a one-tooth smaller counter sprocket than you already have. It's day and night in sand.

it has a 14t front and 39t rear

Then bring a 13T and make sure you can adjust your chain tight enough. Also, don't spray lube on the chain. It only makes the sand stick to it and ruins your chain that much faster.

do NOT get gecko's. they are terrible! if you're not darg racing then go with the ITP Sand Stars, AMS Sidewinders, or GBC Sand Shark. the straits are ok, but i like the V shaped paddle's much better

I've never got buried with them, they just don't have the best hook up. But yeah, I wouldn't exactly suggest them.

i only agree to a certin point about the gecko's....if your not gaunna drag race i believe them to be a pretty good duning tire....seems like everyone in our group has them on there 400's and they enjoy them...but if drag racing is your thing then grab some 8inch rims wrapped in some 8 blade skat traks!

i've ridden on every kind of paddle there is aside from the ITP Dune Star and the AMS Aerospeed and the gecko is by far the worst tire out there man

My friend has the geckos on her 300ex, I find myself sliding side ways too much and digging in with them. Maybe it's the lack of hp, but I definitely would not recommend the geckos. No offense to the people that use them.

I use Sandstars on my 400ex and wish I had spent the extra money at the time to go with Haulers. I find myself trying harder treeshots now that I've had my bike for more then a year and they usually don't have enough hook up to get me out.

Yeah, the only reason I have the Geckos is because they were given to me. They get the job done, but they're not the greatest. Really wish I had the money to invest in some Haulers. $200+ just for a rear set of paddles is out of the question right now.

I have the same, and they are good for the $$$ on my 416. A buddy has a 440 that is a bit faster than mine, and he likes the Aerospeeds as well. I got them at David Allen Racing right next to the Silver Lake dunes, for 25% off and free mounting!

Sorry to thread jump, but I'm in the same situation except mine is totally stock. I should go with 8 blades as well and one tooth smaller front sprocket? Also, what about front tires? Do sand tires on the front make a huge difference?
