i have a 2002 yamaha blaster and was looking for something bigger, i have to start saving money and i was wondering which would be better? I either want a 400ex or a z400, should i get like a 99 or 2000 400ex because it is cheaper and then i could mod it up a bit instead of spending more money on a z400? I think the 400ex idea might be better because i heard it is reliable and stuff, but my honda dealer charges too much for parts, but i guess i could buy parts from like rockymountain. thanx for your advise

i would shoot for a z400 or the top dawg 250r and mod that out

i was thinking about a 250r but it would have to be in good shape, how reliable are they?

01-18-2003, 09:43 PM
they are reliable as you want them to be, dpends on much you take care of them, more you take care of them the longer they last.

so your saying don't get one thats been raced?

01-18-2003, 09:49 PM
If you get one make sure it is rebuilt befroe you buy it and he has not run it or run it much. Check the frame and look at the plastics and tires becuase that can tell ya if it's been abused. Ask him how many owner's and etc. 250r's are awesome if you are smart with them. Get a owner's manual also.

i love the 400ex and i wouldnt trade it for nothin but the z is more bang for the buck

R's are not unreliable in ANY way...I have NEVER blew up a 2 stroke....

And Racers usually take much better care of thier machines than non-racers.

You spend 5k on a R...and 5k on a EX or Z....and tell me what wins...lol. These prices including the machine of course.

if u buy a r buy a racers they do become very unreliable if u dont stay ontop of yer maintence, u can get similar performance out of the z with maintence almost as easy as a 400ex

01-18-2003, 10:07 PM
He is right, but R's are relaible as any other quad if you keep more of an eye on it. So if you are a guy who spends there time looking over and making sure evrything is up to its potential the "R" will be your best quad or friend you had evr had. If not then you quite possibly might be in heII. A z400 and a 250r are 2 very fast quads and the 400ex is right behind but not the best. If you are one who just wants to go out and have fun get a z400 even though im a R rider and honda rider

Go with the 400ex, cause honda thumpers rock:devil

01-19-2003, 02:02 PM
dont want to put the 400ex down or anything but yea the 250r if you got the money to mod it. z400 aint bad but its costly

Ok heres the deal. You can get a 400ex right now in good condition used for around $3000-$3500. That gives around $1500-$2000 on mods. With the mods the 400ex will walk all over a Z. Now you can pay more for the Z now and when you do mod the Z, it will get more gains for each mod. Take a Z and a 400ex equally modded out and the Z will win. They are both great bikes and if it was my choice I would lean toward the Z simply because it is newer and takes to mods much better than a 400ex. A 250r would be a great choice also if you decide to go that route. Either way make sure you get some seat time on them all because sometimes you may just feel more comfortable on one bike more than another. Hope this helps.

Dood get a z400.

Don't listen to these guys.. :blah .. 2 strokes blow.

There is good reason they don't make them anymore. 4-strokes are the future. And they keep getting better all the time. The last big innovation to a 2 stroke was like the powervalve back in 1979..lol.

Just get a Z.

I seen your mods....that wouldn't have a prayer against a basic CT310 "R"...lol

z400 it is, thanx guys, i am getting a job at my yamaha/suzuki dealer soon so i would also get a big discount on the quad and maybe they would throw in some extras, so far i have worked out a new pair of either tech 6 or tech 8 boots if i buy the quad!

Trust me I have more than a prayer,

i drag race all the time. Not many 250rs beat me.

If Im beating 350 banshees, with Delta force valves, Lrger carbs, and FMF pipes by about 1 quad and a half, I'm for some reason lead to believe I can beat a basic 310r.:macho

nakmois stfu and quit the bragging, geez 2 strokes and 4 strokes both rock. If i were him I'd get as suzuki z400 or a 250r. the 400ex is becoming outdated. Not saying the 250r isnt.

im in the same controversy between the z and ex for when i start working again in the warm...by the time i save up the 1500 i need z-400's price for used ones will be alittle less than now and ill have around 4000-4200 to spend. only reason im considering the z is the reverse but if i find a deal on a nice 400...im jumping on it so for me its what i find first for the best deal.

Srry I just think 4 strokes are better. Didn't mean to brag or anything. I just ride different bikes all the time, they seem extremely week unless your in there powerband. And they are harder to ride cause you have to shift all the time. Oh ya forgot to add 4 strokes are better for traction too. ..but whateverm i'll base my reasons on facts..not just I own one kind of bike so I feel I have to stick up for it.

I'm curious, is the 250r still the most raced bike? Or is the 4-stoke close to taking its place?

nakomis0 you do have a ponit i don;t belive that the 4 strokes will slow out class the r but who has the 25 k to dump into a new 4 stroke??

01-19-2003, 08:13 PM
it aiight, and i think the 250r's are getting outdated more and more but slowly and etc., but I will always love em and race em.

Well the good thing about 4 stroke is they start very well in any weather. 2 strokes depending on what you have are pertty tough to start in the winter. But 2 strokes will SMOKE 4 strokes and there is no one that can say different. SO if your a real man and got the need for speed go with a banshee.OR better YET THE QUADZILLA LT500 2 stroke liquid cooled. Stock it has 56 horse power ooo **** yeah.NOT FOR BEGINNERS

i said in an earlier post that i wanted to race, from what i heard the zilla and bansheearent good mx quads, so i don't know what i will get, a semi modded 400ex or a new z400 for the same price.
