Hey guys, which Loctite should I use for the cam sprocket bolts?

I was going to use the red stuff since you don't want those cam bolts coming loose but I was wondering if it is overkill? I've heard that the red Loctite takes heat in order to remove the bolt in the future?

Which one is best to use, red or blue?

used red on mine...after i did like steve and didnt use any, and the bolts backed out and nearly fell off, and my cam gear was wobblin around in there makin a hell of a racket. u dont have to use heat to get them off...been down that road
not knockin your method steve, but just stating i had problems that could have been devastating due to not using loctite. :D

knock on wood, lol. i have never used loctite on anything but the axle lock nut. this has red on it right now since i dont want it to move at all. i have never had any problems when i torques stuff down properly when it is put back together but i guess it could happen at any time. steve

Red is only removable with heat, blue can be taken off with some torque.

Dont use red unless you want it to never come off.

Not saying your wrong, but ive used red before and couldnt get the part apart without using heat or at least an impact.

Loctites site says its so anyways: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/detail.asp?catid=10&subid=48&plid=154

red is probably overkill though ;)

Thanks for the replies :)

I ended up buying some Loctite blue (242). I compared red and blue before I bought it and they both had the same temperature rating. The Loctite red said "permanent", requires heat to remove and the blue box said "removable", removed with hand tools.

I used Loctite red the first time I did a cam swap in my motor, but sent the motor to GT Thunder after that. So I never really dealt with removing Loctite red before. I didn't want to rip the threads out of the little sprocket bolt later down the road if I used the red. That stuff seems pretty hardcore :scary:

SLOWly but surely lol. It's been dragging for sure, but i'm trying to put in time when I can. I just got back from a little winter vacation and haven't slept in about 36 hours, but i'm eager to get back at it again. It's definitely coming along though.
