Do u have to re-plate a nickel plated cylinder?? I mean not every cylinder is nickle plated

no you do not have to. you can buy a sleeve to put in the cylinder. to sleeve a cylinder, it costs just as much to replate it, but with a sleeve you can bore it out when it wears out. what kind of bike are you talkin about?

The purpose for aluminum to prevent wear, corrosion, and make it true and round or you can have it sleeved with a steel or iron hardened alloy. Both perform well IF the sleeve is installed right.

Plate has a little better heat transfer and little smaller coefficent of wear, weighs a few ounces less, cost more, can't be bored up, more fradgile and can flake and peel.

Bottom line: sleeve will give you more life for the $, but if you are happy with the OEM plating redo it. If you go with a sleeve find a reputable company.

agreed, LA sleeve and Advanced sleeve are some companies that make good sleeves.

A replate shouldn't run you more that $220 bucks. It'll cost you that much to send your cylinder off and have sleeve pressed in. Plus the steel sleeve will have less heat transfer and just won't work as well as the nickel coated cylinder. You have use a diamond hone to hone a nickel plated cylinder so they're pretty tough when you get them back. The Nickel plated cylinders will last a lot longer if you keep fresh pistons and rings in them too. Let it go to long and you have to replate.
