The only videos I've seen of people cutting plastic involve using jig saws.

Does anybody have an idea of a really sharp maneuverable tool for cutting precisely without any jagged edges that need sanding or much mess?

i measured a billion times, and used a sawzall:chinese: and then a dremmel with sanding rolls. its definitely not for the faint of heart, but i got it done.

A dremel works great! I normally use electrical tape and tape the lines I want to cut, I'll make the first cuts on the outside, and start to take off more until I have the shape I want. Then I take a file to it, then some sandpaper. Then if you want you can warm up the edge with some heat to get it to melt. It will look extremely close to factory.

You could always try a grooving iron. They are made to be used on tires but I gotta think it'd make a nice clean cut on the plastic.

You should be able to pick one up for around $65

Air body saw and a 90deg die grinder with a scotch brite abrasive pad for the edges.

heat gun and a nice sharp utility knife. mark it out with a dry erase marker first

why do people cut their fenders? seems like you would wear a lot more mud

Left handed tin snips work great with a razor blade to get the facory edge you can rip the plastic for a great edge.

its more for looks than any other performance gain. less drag, but not enough to make a big difference unless your'e going like 90

Its also about feel... i like to be able to see my front wheels when I ride... IDK what it is but I def like cut fenders better. plus cutting them gets them out of the way from your knees

as for technique, we always use a jig saw and then a cheap soldering iron and run it over the edges and smooth them out. looks like factory

Dremmel makes a multi tool you can put a cutting blade on it and it cuts like butter and is small so it is easy to use. I cut mine in like 5 mins.

All good suggestions, thanks guys.

Right now I'm looking into some kind of knife that heats up to melt/cut. Anybody know of such a thing or would it just make a mess if it got too hot?

Or something like a cottering laser/knife?
