ok so im about to buy an 07 450r. Are they reliable. has anybody heard of them giving problems?are they as reliable as the good ole 400ex?

no 450s are going to come close to a 400 for reliability...but it should be good as long as you change the oil every few hours and always have a clean air filter on it

the 06+s did have some tranny problems but you can get moto-xperts to fix it for $120

You have to stay on top of keeping the intake valves adjusted on the 06+ bikes also. They tighten up very fast.

Solid bikes though if maintained.

and if you do any power upgrades dont do a high comprssion piston i was told thats one problem that blew my 04 up i got it used and it was ruffer then the guy said

p.s CHECK EVERYTHING ON THE BIKE TRUST ME if you have to get if you dont know alot about the bike get some one that knows tons about them to go with you trust me on this because i got this bike ive had to put about 2500 in the motor because i didnt know what to look for before

as far as the reliabilty, i ave had less problems out of my 450r than i have with either of my 300ex's. as long as you do normal maintnence, and upkeep, they are very reliable. though, it is very hard to beat the reliability of a 400ex. just keep it clean, and keep it nice.

thanks. but i must remind u my 300ex is only 1 year old with alot of hours and gone threw many sets of tyres and brakepads

good bikes- keep em clean, regular oil changes, keep air filter clean, and regular valve checks...

btw tyres(tires) and brakepads have nothing to do with reliability, they are going to wear out no matter what.

chcecking the valves to be sure they are lashed correctly.

you have to check valve clearences after so many hours i cant remember what honda calls for but i check mine after about 20-30 hours.

check this out this is what you would have to do after you do it once it only takes about 30 min.

sounds like a kid guys i dunno if i recommend for him to do his own valves unless his dad or somebody helps him

chevys&honda$

he is like 15 or somthing but that does'nt matter.....maybe the first time someone should help him make sure it gets done right but 15/16 is a good age to start turning your own wrenches... kids who have daddy do everything turn into weenie's.

im not saying i know everything about motors but i know how it all works., i know alot about two stroke and if checking the valves is going to be a pain in the *** i think ill get a 400ex.

ive build blaster motors from the head up. i think i know my way around a quad.

12-07-2009, 01:50 PM
head up? thats nothing. try tearing into the bottm end. im 15 i have a 04 with some mods. i tear mine apart but i let my brother check the valves because he knows the clearences and i dont. but i mean i know how to do it and be sure there in spec and stuff like that.

you've done blaster motors "from the head up" ha thats called changing a sparkplug... thats the only thing above the head.

ive had my 450r since a month before i turned 14, so 1 1/2 years, and ive done all my own work. my dad couldnt even pick my bike out of a line-up of 5 bikes. i deal with my own things...

thats what i figured.. just kidding with ya a little bit, but did you happen to think about a 250r if you like and know 2 strokes then go with what you know. i have a 450r and a 250r so i am not bias. but i like my 250r better, but the 450 is a sweet ride, and i would never say a bad thing about a 400ex i miss everyone i owned and will have another someday. take your time look over your options test them if you can, then make up your mind..
goodluck

which ever way you go ANY bike should have regular valve checks it will jsu t make it last longer

i was 14 when i did my first quad motor rebuild and it was a blaster did all the work myself also so thumbs up on that, but a 4 stroke is alot harder and the bottom end is extreme compared to the top end of a 2-stroke just giving you a heads up you can easily be getting in over your head, but by no means if you think you wanna try it go for it just make sure you take your time

im leaning towards an 08 400ex and mabey get some suspension done to it. plus reverse gear is a big factor

i was thinking about an ltr450 or a 450r

something reliable and i think the 400ex is a good option but im worried about the speed difference in the 450r compared to the 400

warr72
12-08-2009, 05:32 AM
If your gonna run trails and tight stuff the 400 is very good. But if your gonna race it or a speed and power freak then 450. Alot I would say is on your riding ability.

IRISH-RACER-14

i do all types. i go to mx practises. ride in trails, go to the dunes.

warr72
12-08-2009, 05:56 AM
Ride em both and go with what feels good to you. The reverse is nice, but who cares about going backwards when I spent a ton of money to go fast forward. :huh

IRISH-RACER-14
12-08-2009, 06:18 AM
ya what happends if i get stuck and the only direction is forward? im kinda leaning towards the 400 or the 700

hes the same way how my father is my dad cant make up his mind about if he wants to but another 450 part mine out rebuild my motor which will be 2000 or buy a 05 with a rekluse for 1100 but it might need some work i still think that the 1100 would be fine hes like well what if you have to put 2000 in it im like people told me I can rebuild it for around 800

Get off, grab the bumper and flip it around, haha.

Sounds like the 400ex is a much better quad than you, easier to maintain and good for sport riding.

also i wouldnt bother getting an 08, they havent changed much at all in the years, my friend has a 02 406ex all fresh completely rebuild aftermarket shocks/a-arms forsale for $3000, a new one is what 6 grand?

just get a 450 so you can keep up with everybody else out there and be done with it.. you cant go wrong with a honda

yea definately a 450. u get so much more for a little more work. if vavles are what you are scared of...dont be..they arent really that big of a deal.
