Looking to buy some new skat-trak haulers for my ktm. My mods are 12.5:1 thumper racing 540, baldwin racing r2r promo head, Hmf exhaust, and DJH 44mm taper bored fcr. I ride 50% drag and 50% duning/treeshots. What would be the best size and paddle count? Im thinking a 21 inch tall 9 or 10 paddle? Im afraid to buy to much tire. Help me out!

Any idea what kind of hp you're putting out? I'd assume its pretty healthy...

8 paddle haulers always seem to be a very popular choice.

I know its not a Honda, but trx450r.org has a ton of dune guys with all sorts of makes and they know exactly what paddles you'd need.

It should make in the high 50's for hp. Ill sign up over there and see what they think

What dunes are you at the most? What kind of drag? Flat drag or hill climb drag? All these would be a factor. I know just about nothing about flat drags but I do know if your doing hillclimb.

22" tire and a 6 paddle padla-brat would be the best for hill drag.

For all around duning I would say a 21" tire with 8 paddle. High paddle counts are for 2-smokes. 4-stroke you want less paddle.

i would go with a 10 paddle tire for your particular bike. i have never heard that 2strokes require more paddles than 4 strokes?? my pretty much stock 450R pulls a 8 paddle tire with no problem. with the mods you have 10 shouldnt be a problem at all!

It can turn them fine, no question about it. However if you want to be the fastest up a hill with a 4 stroke, you want less paddle. You could also look into a 10 or 12 paddle glider. They are smaller blade and alot of guys run them up Little Sahara.

If you don't wanna take my word go do some research and you will find exactly what I've just said.

:)

:tired:

You have never been to Sand Mountain in Ut. 6 Paddle haulers or padla-brats.

Let's see if I can sum this up for you guys- When your hill shooting you want less paddle because it robs less top speed. More paddle takes away from your top speed when talking 4 strokes. It is way more in depth than you guys think. I have a set of 6 paddle haulers on my YFZ with Dasa & ESR. That being said, I beat guys all the time with ALOT more mods than me because they are running 9 and 10 paddle's up Sand Mountain which is robbing their power. If you want to get into all the technicalities we could also start talking about the roll-out of different paddle's, but this guy is not a pure drag racer so that would be pointless. I'm not going to sit here and search all day to prove my point because I have nothing to prove. If you're a "know it all" and don't want my advice, look else where. You will get the same results when talking to people KNOWLEDGEABLE on the subject.

For what the OP is asking, I recommend a 21" 8 paddle hauler, or even a 22" hauler. That will be good for all around use, 50/50 between drags and duning.

Nova is right. Most people tend to way over paddle for their application.

A stock 450 will spin anything out there, its not a matter of just spinning the tire. There is a lot that goes into purchasing the correct paddle for your application.

I've seen lots of 6 paddle brats like mentioned on some decently built bikes.

i learned something new. so what do guys think would be the correct paddle count on a mildly modded 450R for 300ft drags

Im going with a standard buff 8-paddle 21x12-8. I ride mostly oregon sand. Do you guys think this would work out right for my build?

For St Anthonies and sand mountain my perfect combo turned out to be 22inch 7 paddle haulers. 55hp 34ft pounds torque . I wasted one of these old dogs on some rocks and decided to repaddle instead of searching for replacements. If you can muster more power than that maybe go with more padddles . I have a set of 8 paddle 21inch haulers I got for cheap so we shall see how they do. I borrowed a set of 10 paddles and they did drag my 48 hp quad down at high speed. So definately dont overpaddle.

Is this flat drag or hill shooting?

I really don't know much about flat drags, mostly hill shooting.

go with the extremes instead of the haulers. they are way tougher

extremes are garbage for drag. Rollout on extremes make a bad drag tire. Do not get extremes!

i wasnt aware he wanted them for drag racing. im just speaking from my experience. i have ran them for years and have another bike with haulers, and i prefer the extremes.

He said 50/50. If you're doing any drag you do not want extremes. I wouldn't buy extremes even for all around duning. They're way to stiff. Garbage IMO.

i like how little they wear, and having the beefed up paddles for high torque engines is appealing to me

To each his own I guess. But the "Beefed up for high torque" is a crok. Even full out drag bikes use Haulers or Gliders because extreme's have no flex.

im just sayin, they work for me
