LOL What companies do you supply and test for? I'll try and avoid them.

With the amount of times you've knocked your head , it might be scary getting on any plane in which you've tested parts " Hrmm was that a pass or a fail .. I can't remember ... ah screw it , it was a pass " ;)

I've studied the coal mine stuff , but never had the chance to actually go down into a coal mine. Are you guys ramped down or do you have a cage and do you guys long hole drill ?

Here in Sudbury it's all hard rock mining so it's quite different from the coal mines. A lot of long hole drilling and chasing veins... we're chasing nickel, copper, gold and other precious metals ... but mostly the nickel.

Some of the mines are down over 9000 feet.

I'm finishing up my Mining Engineering program right now ... gunan get into the sales part of things. You probably use some equipement made here in Sudbury ... scoops from MTI , McLean bolters ??

That's pretty much why I went into nursing. After beeing laid up for months at a time and having quite a few days racked up in a hostpital bed, I got to see exactly how people care for you and how you would like to be treated. I usually work with some pretty critically ill patients (traumatic brain injuries, severe car crash, lots of ATV wrecks, etc) so it's pretty intense at times. The hardest part is probably dealing with the families at times. Most are pretty understanding, but it's sometimes hard to do your job when others try to tell you how to do your job or threaten you with a law suit lol. haha it's not like I work 100% with geriatric patients that just randomly ***** themselves for the fun of it, but hey it's part of the territory and someone has to do it.

I just got my CCRN certification as well. In my graduating class there was 20. We started with 96.

I just got a new job a couple weeks ago. I am a property preservation specialist. I work for a company that has a contract with bank of america to service foreclosed houses. I got my own laptop, $1500 worth of tools, charge card for gas, $15 a day for my vehicle. Right now ive been doing alot of initial secures which is where i go and change the locks to the houses and drain the water system. Most of the houses are locked so i just grab the doorknob with a big pair of channel locks and rip it off and open the door or if its a deadbolt i just drill out the 2 screws holding it in. I have a big manual on how to pick locks and gain access to properties. Its been pretty cool so far but sometimes i have to go to bad neighborhoods and i find doors missing and signs of bums or whoever sleeping in there, im considering getting a concealed weapon license to be safe....

My father was a pro motocross racer in the 70's. He also built the home tracks for riders like Brock Glover, and Ricky Johnson. Heavy equipment has been a family business for generations in my family. I went to college on a football scholarship, and got hurt. I stayed and got my business and engineering degrees. From there I started working in heavy equipment, knowing I wanted to own my own business someday.

So... Lots of 70 hour weeks later, and just being introduced to the right people who were fans of my work and here I am. The funny thing is that I never ride the tracks I build. I'm a sand only guy. I mean I will roll everything, but I never got into mx.

you work at APAC reconmaster? i used to be just a general customer service rep working for verizon. I worked there for six months and absolutely hated that job with a burning passion. Verizon treats their employees like garbage. You get to sit there everyday and endure all the customers screaming and yelling and when they requested a supervisor none of the supervisors in the building wanted to be bothered. They used to tell me to handle it myself so i was forced to sit there and listen to the customer scream at me that they didnt want to talk to me they wanted a supervisor. Every day they would threaten people that they were going to lose their jobs and the entire building was going to shut down if our call quality didnt pick up. so how do you like it workin there lol?

I've been involved with machining in one way or another since I was 17 (now 29) and co-op'd out of a vocational school machine trades program; don't regret any of it. Started as a screw machine operator, then worked in a small job shop as a do-it all guy; grinding, mills, lathes, cnc mill/lathe programming, setup, operate, on-site stuff, tig/mig/stick/oxy. Did my apprenticeship and worked there for 9 years; got a Journeyman Machinist certificate, 2yr Manuf.Eng. degree, and a mig welding cert. Got hired out from there by Makino (top tier cnc mill manufacturer) as a field service tech; worked mainly in Chicagoland/lower Wisconsin. Long story short; phenomenal job, but the traveling got to me. Left that job 3 years ago for my current employer- a top-tier carbide cutting tool manufacturer; first as an application engineer , now in a sales role. Love what I do, and the benefits are incredible. I've been in shops making everything from the spindles on your car, to nuclear reactors, jet engines, landing gear, injection molds, whatever... You can knock the manufacturing industry's future, but it's been good enough to me to afford me plenty of toys over the years, my 2nd house, no credit card debt, and a job with no car/fuel payment. Probably also helps I'm still single..haha.

Also have a 5hp South Bend knee mill, LeBlond lathe, and a DoAll horizontal band saw that I've been slowly tooling up for fun on the side.

I'm pretty convinced you can make a good life for yourself no matter what you do for money as long as you're happy doing it; just have to take advantage of every chance you're given and keep a positive attitude.

What I don't get is people are calling us to help them with there phones and can be a pain in the *** or don't want to do troubleshooting and lose it. I just took delivery of my new D5k xl. I checked and it was manufactured in Peoria, so I'm sure you had your hands on it in some way.

i been a machinist since i graduated. actually before then because i went on work leave halfway through my senior year. I loved the work and its a job where your never bored because your always learning something. But i was laid off in 06 and now again but this last one has been a long term one. I dont wanna go back into it cause every time a shop loses a contract then you wonder if youll have a job. So im workin on my CDLs and start driving truck. But i gotta get surgery before i can take my final test. Im blind in one eye and i dont want that restriction on my CDL... and the eye can be fixed so why not do it while i dont have to miss work to get it done

That's great man. I hear that all the time. Most PTAs love their job. As someone else said the schooling is tough but I'm hoping it will be worth it in the end.

Im a teacher. An automotive/motorcycle technology teacher on the high school to be exact. I came into a program that had nothing, and split the learning standards and created the best high school motorcycle program in the southeast. Complete with 150K in snap-on tools, service literature, and a Mustang ATV/MC dyno (eddy current chassis dyno). Yes, im fortunate and I love my job:D

I was a Ford dealership tech for many years, a Ford technical instructor for a year or so, and a Honda motorcycle dealership technician for a couple of years before this.
