Had to pull the engine out of my ride because I think I bent a shift fork. 3rd gear quit on me while climbing a gravel pit wall. I just made it and rolled over the top. It was a close one but now I got to split the cases.

may or may not be related but, check the end play of the shift drum. i've seen the retainers get loose and behave in a similar manner.
