im looking into geting the oversized oil tank because some of the trails i ride get windy and you puts along so i wanted a way to cool the motor.now my only problem is ive been told runing the big tank ill need to put in a thermostat because it will run too cold? does anyone know anything about this someone who has one it would be appreciated for any input thanks

theres no way to put in a conventional thermostat. I saw one somewhere that circulates the oil conventionally then opens up to the larger reservoir once its at operating temperature but I think thats more to get the operating system warmed up quicker. Ive never heard of oil being too cold though....too thick for cold weather yes.

No it won’t run to cool. Heat is the enemy!!!!


Remember an ex is air cooled so the oil and air flow are the only way it has to cool itself down. Your never going to put to many cooling components on it.

I don't want to hyjack your thread, but I wonder if there is a larger oil coller we could fit to a 400EX?

Yeah there are lots of threads on that. Do a search I’m sure you’ll find something. I’ve not done it but many have.

save your money on the larger tank and just add a larger oil cooler. Way better IMO.

i really don't think a larger tank will do much besides prolong the time it takes the engine to warm up.

Buy a SPAL fan and leave the rest stock.
