I am looking into cameras for the wife for our anniversary. She is a rookie so ease of use is a must. Looking for something that can take action shots of the kids racing and playing sports with a decent zoom lens. Nothing crazy on the zoom just enough to snap across the soccer field say 30-40 yards away. It has to be digial and have auto features. I have 400 to spend on it and thats for everyhthing thats tax and all of it. Any good ideas. I saw a Nikon coolpix 12.1 megapixel on sale at bestbuy for 370 will this work. I dont have to spend the full 400 thats just my max so if I can get off cheaper I will.

Do you mean the Coolpix p90? It's a decent camera (I suppose) for the price, and if you'll be shooting mostly outdoors in good lighting then it might be worth looking at... But as far as indoor/low light shots, the image is far too noisy. I'd recommend an ordinary point and shoot over this camera.

If you up your budget just a bit you can start looking toward a packaged d40/d60 kit or one of canon's beginner SLR kits.

The G11 must be the latest version.

Try www.bhphoto.com

I have ordered over $35,000 in gear from them and never had an issue.

I did some checking g9's and 10's are discontinued. I would have to find somebody with one in stock. G11's I found for 450 local here.. Leaning towards this camera. Any inputs?

I wish I could offer some hands on advice....but the specs are awesome, uses the cmos sensor...and the G9 and 10 were both great and reliable units.

I dont follow most of the consumer based models but want one of these as a pocket camera.

I got a hold of local camera shop and he is steering me towards the olympus 420 over the g11 if I can find one. He claims it will take better pictures and has the option of changing out the lens that the g11 does not have and is 400 for the body and a lens. The g11 was 450 but is a smaller camera size wise. I am at about 500 with the olymous after tax and memory card and around 550 on the g11.. I am undecided, the g11 is in stock I have to track down a a 420 because they are being replaced with new 520 and are going fast...

I agree with Pappy. I have a G10 myself and it has yet to let me down with any type of quality. It has all the automatic features, and Manual for when you want to start learning more.
