Hey all,

I just got my daughter into quads and now need another one. My wife has TRX250, I have an '07 TRX400, piped and jetted.

I was originally going to get a TRX450R, give my wife my 400 and give the 250 to my daughter. However, after checking with a few dealers I'm finding some kick *** deals on the 700XX.

Now, I LOVE my 400 and love the way it rides. I guess my big concern at this point is how much different a 700XX would be ride wise. I'm a big dude (6'1", 265#) and mostly ride deserts and dunes, and LOTS of sand.

I would love to hear some input from other 700XX owners on thier experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm mostly doing desert & dune riding. Washes, whoops and sand dune hill climbs.

I initially was looking at the 450R's but the 700XX's are turning out to be much cheaper.

LOL, DEFINITELY a weekend warrior. Basically ride once a month for a weekend about half the year.

I'm intriuged by the power of it, but worried about the weight. Will it still carve turns on razorbacks?

The IRS in the desert is great you will be able to ride longer and harder and not be as beat up at the end of the day. Just some tips in the sand get front rib tires the IRS will push in the turns, front A-arms help even better. To power slide shift weight in and forward to break rear loose.

Hi barthel,

I just purchased a 700xx last week and rode it for the first time yesterday.

Like you, my last sport quad was a 400ex which I had enjoyed for many years. And again like you, I'm 6'1" and a little lighter at 225.

My initial analysis:

I own a Polaris 500 Sportsmen as well, so I am used to having an independent rear suspsension. And I ride the bike agressively most frequently on Hatfield McCoy trails in WV. So, I was somewhat prepared for the differences in that vs. straight axel rears.

The key with IRS is learning to drive the bike into the corners. They don't slide out the rear as easily. So, you have to set up entering the apex of the turn, make your steering adjustments and accelerate out.

Running with my buddies against their bikes yesterday (Suzuki 400, Yamaha 450, Honda 450) I was lagging behind in the morning. Towards the afternoon, I had pretty well figured out what the 700xx liked and towards the end of the day I was with them or ahead much of the time. On uneven terrain (trail riding and open bumpy flats) frankly, I left them in the dirt. So to speak.

On the motorcross track, where admittedly I don't have a wealth of experience, I felt as though the front end was heavy. I let one of my friends ride it who is an x ATV racer and he concurred with me on that point. However, adjusting throttle input on the jump and changing my seat posistion towards the rear helped a lot.

Again, I just got it, so I have a lot to figure out. But, I can tell you that I doubt you'll be dissapointed. The bike has more power than you could imagine. With the fuel injection, throttle response is instantaneous and the torque never seems to go away.

I don't know what kind of deal you are seeing but, my out the door price was just over $6,000. That included all set up fees taxes etc. And because Honda is also offering 3.9% for 36 months, decided to use some of there money for a while.

Hope this helps and good luck!

JBDIV,

Helped a lot.

My riding partner has one and its different. I would never trade my 450r for it but it has its own attributes that may others may like more than i do. I dont like the irs at all and i find it more of a hinder than anything. I do however ripping it down a rutted washed out trail. For me it has way too much of a floating feeling and turns like poo but it does handle the rough well. I dont have dunes in pa but im told thats what its made for. I guess thats why you dont see many of them here in pa and dealers are trying to give them away. They make good power and seem to take well to mods but it doesnt seem to be catching to the aftermarket as much as everyone would have thought.

I would say go for it. A lot of people are not liking this bike because of the IRS and its weight, but really, you just have to ride it differently. Having the different geometry in the rear is like having different geometry in the front. The bike is going to handle things differently, and once you adapt to the bike, you can keep up fine. Thats what annoys me with the reviews of this bike. Nobody mentions this, and the xx is always being compared to SRA quads, which are completely different.

I've pretty much have had every kind of quad out there with most recently being 450r's, cannondale's and a 08 raptor. I sold the raptor and bought a 700xx for a nice price.
They do have there differences but fast trail riding i found the xx to be alot less tiring after a 85 mile ride.
Don't get me wrong the raptor with the big 3 was a nice ride also.
I would go for a big bore (alot less shifting) over a 450 and maintenance should be less.

Just my opinion but everyone's different

Sooooo! Have you bought one??

No, and unfortunately probably won't. I was looking at a TRX450R but managed to bash up my 400 on our last run. Now the money that being used for a new one is going into fixing the old one. =(
