All new exhaust is next on my mods list. Most likely getting pieces seperately tho. Which will net the most improvement first?
An HMF or FMF slipon or the FMF power bomb pipe?

slip on for sure. that is where most of the constriction comes from.

Yeah, the slip on. The head pipe on the 400 is actually pretty good stock.

If it's that good is there any reason to pickup a powerbomb after I've got a slip on installed?

depends what other modifications you have. more air in=more air that needs to get out. honestly, i have pretty much everything done besides an aftermarket header (mine aren't exactly stock though either..) but i could just never justify spending that much for such minimal gains. if i were in your position, i would put the money into something else -ie handlebars, tires, nerfs, anything worn out like chain and sprockets etc.

I wouldn't. Maybe pull it off and grind the welds down where the head pipe fits into the head. Outside of that, save up and get a full system. A full system will work better than a slip on and an aftermarket headpipe.

Before I had my Sparks X-6 I had a Yosh slip on. I loved the power with it. The only reason I upgraded was because the slip-on's mount busted and I trashed the slip-on.

i wouldnt think too much into the headpipe thing, the stock one does not compare to the fmf powerbomb. i have a HMF slipon and when i installed the powerbomb header it showed real nice gains. lots on the bottom end throttle responce, not to mention i love the sound those 2 together make, its very throaty, but not snappy sounding like most. just a real smooth powerful sound.

you already have a slipon.... its only like 175 shipped for the powerbomb...... and any full system you buy will be over $400 probably.... just makes more sence to me.

the diff. between a full system and a pieced system like this is not going to be enough your even gonna feel it, if you have a fully built 460 stroker maybe. but not likely.

Does not having a shield cause any problems? I guess it wouldn't if always wearing boots.

i never had a problem, i dont own "riding" boots. i ware work boots and jeans or carhart coveralls in the snow. the only time i notice it is in the summer when i try to were shorts..... i know, you dont ware shorts riding but... sometimes i just putt around the yard.

I always wear short when I ride unless it's super cold or I'm racin and it doesn't bother me any I just kinda got use to it

I usually ride in jeans and work boots too, but had some shorts on the other day and my leg kept hitting the heat shield and of course that damn thing is HOT! Just curious if I was the only one. And with the powerbomb there is NOTHING to dissipate heat at all, so it should theoretically be much hotter than the heat shield would be.

Where can I find the powerbomb for 175 shipped? Rocky Mtn wants 223 for it

ok i read this and was going to order a full HMF kit for my 400ex but its better just to get the slip on? If so that cuts the price in 1/2. I have a supertrapp on it right now but always loved HMF

i got mine from a ebay store i think.... or maybe bike bandit? it may have bean more than that too... price the other brands of headpipes thow:eek2: some of them are $300 just for a headpipe. my ltz pipe was over $600. (full system) i couldnt complain for the price.

its $461 shipped for the full HMF. I do plan on a 440 kit one day and am wondering if the headpipe would actually help in that case. If so ill go ahead and get it now
