raptor 250 hands down. available mods are skyrocketing, its lighter, faster, has a better frame and suspention and you can put 450R shocks on the front:D

i would deff go with the raptor, unfortunately. it's basically like a 4-stroke blaster made with better quality.

what has to be done to run the 450 shocks, plus two long travel a-arms? I'm moving my son up and we can't decided between the two bikes. We are a Honda family but I'm not sure the 300ex will handle his ridden stlye without upgrades.

yeah plus 2 a arms or you can go to diamondjcustoms.com and get the widening kit which is cheaper than buying a-arms...

If you are keeping the bikes to close to stock form definatly go with the raptor 250 but if you are eventually going to heavily modify the bike the raptor 250 does not even compare. I race in an extremely copetitive district ,district 6, with about 20 kids running all out national bikes in the 200/300 class and the 300's take about 1st though 10th and then the blasters and raptors fill in the rest if the says anything about both of them in national form. I don't think we will ever get to the National level, but we will install a full exhaust. My son was on a 250ex and he has run some local outlaw races, it didn't take long to find out that the 250ex was not for him. Now he wants to run the outlaw races and some District 13 races, we are just looking for a good all around bike for a thirteen year old to ride trails and put on the track somtimes.

then for your application the raptor 250 is 10 times better then the 300ex

Thanks for your info. It will be hard seing a Yamaha setting in the garage beside two Honda's.

I am not sure how big your 13yo is but the 250 looks really small as far as fit for the rider. I agree it is probably better than the 300ex which isn't that much better than the 250ex. I would just jump to the 400ex. Far better than the rest and upgradeable to be better.

i agree. if hes 13 jump him into a 400ex or even better yet a 450r. if he has experience either bike would be perfect for him

He has alot of experience, rides a z400 on the trails, but a thirteen year old can't ride any AMA events on a 400. I pick up a 08 Raptor 250, great bike and it fits him very well.
