I took my brand new 2008 ds 450x to the track today. I rolled around the track to get familiar with the new track, it had been reconfigured and new direction changes. My very first jump broke the rear suspension in half. About 1 and a half inches above the bottom of the shaft it looks like it bent then broke, i am believing i made the biggest mistake of my life trading my 450r for this. On top of that when i take off in first gear it sounds like tires on asphalt while braking, i am guessing this is the sound of the clutch that everybody is having problems with? I have less than an hour on this quad what kind of crap is can-am doing? almost killed first time on a track not a good start. To top it all off my dealer is 2 hours away.

I got no idea what your talking about. Did the swing arm crack? What do you mean "it had been reconfigured and new direction changed"...put some pics up or something.

I think the Direction change thing was regarding the track Layout TNT. That sounds pretty strange that the "Suspenson" broke in half? Are you talking bout axle maybe?

No the track had been changed and i wanted to get familiar so i rolled around the track in 1st and 2nd gear. When i landed the jump the shaft on the rear shock snapped in half. So the whole rear dropped to the ground.

The shaft diameter on the 08 rear shocks were pretty small(smaller that any other 450 OEM shock), probably one way of keeping weight down.

They will break with hard landings.

Try and find a take off 09 MX shock or go aftermarket.

the 08 rear shock break when they are jumped quite a bit.... get an 09 mx shock. They are so much better. Check if you have your clutch updates done.. that could be the squealing.

Really! Now they have the shock wrong also. It is hard to keep up with all the new developments on what Can am got wrong with the ds 450.

Although, I don't think my shock is in too much threat since my jumps are measured in inches.

Well i took it to the dealership today and they said they had to send pictures off to can am even though a warranty specialist will be there on wednesday. But the service manager said he will check all recalls bulletins and updates and fix them while it is there. They also told me they would do everything in there power to make sure i can race and win with them as my sponsor. I am waiting to hear from can-am to see if they are going to sponsor me. Either way i still miss my honda, never had a down day in the 5 years i owned it.

at least it seems like you have a good dealer. That makes all the difference when dealing with any problems you have.
