I have an 06 450ER that I want to put a kicker kit on. I wanted to know if i could use a kicker assembly off an 04-05 450R? And if I need to but additional parts to make it work? seems that i could find one of those a lot cheaper used than to buy the $450 kit from JH. Also, was wondering if anyone has tried both the 2 battery 24 volt setup and a kicker setup? I race XC and want the quick dead engine start. I'm wondering if i need to buy a carb with a hot start if i put a kicker kit on to make it start better when engine is warm. i read on here that some people drill their 450ER carb out to put a hot start on it. Anybody.....???????????

I did mine by hunting down the parts. 450r.org has the list in the engine discussion board. I did mine for around 190 bucks. great conversion.

did you buy all used parts and piece a kit together? or did you buy a 04-05 assembly and buy the parts you needed for an 06+?

what do you mean by "assembly"

The 04/05 kicker lever will work and is actually cheaper.

You can get all the parts for way less than 450 from service honda. Just find a good list with the parts you need and get them. The list tells you everything you need the cheapest way. There is one gear that needs flipped, get the 04/05 kicker lever. I believe the gears inside are all totally different than the 04/05 becuase of the electric start.

by "assembly" i mean all the kickstart components, such as gears, clips, retainers, etc. Everything to make an ER a kickstart

here's what you need.

now, obviously people are finding out what these are worth. I bought this same setup for 50 bucks 3 months ago. so you may wait a while and find one thats going for cheaper.

This is the thread that gives you all the part numbers for everything you need to do the conversion

Here's where you look up the parts to get the part numbers from the years specified

thanks for the info JH. i talked to some guys and they recommend putting in a new kit instead of putting a used 04-05 assembly in. might have to take you up on one of those kits. not ready to buy it right now, motors being sent out, but i want one by next season

do what you want man, but I don't see the difference in a new kit compared to finding the gears and then buying oem stuff. Its your money, I"d save myself 250 bucks and put it together myself. I use mine for xc racing and I wouldn't do a mod that I didn't think was reliable.

the kit is the same thing as ordering all the parts from the list they just put it them all in one box for you and charge you for it lol
