Elka seems to be the hot setup for Baja.

Why do most of the riders not use full nerfs in the Baja? At the speeds and terrain they are covering I would want them.

Seems like hondas pretty much have the Baja 1000 wrapped up.

Myself, I would never ride without them. Especially in the terrain and conditions of the Baja Races. I'll take all the protection I can get. I also find it interesting that few use a-arm skids.
Some parts of the course include trails covered in basketball sized rocks, followed by silt beds that are bumper deep, and then ruts that can high center a truck.

Brutal, dosent even BEGIN to describe what rider and machine must endure in these races.
It has long been said that when your talking about Baja,

"Bragging Rights , do not come with winning the race....
They come with merely finishing it."

On average, only 40 to 50 percent of all entries, (bikes, quads, trophy trucks, class 1's, and all others),...
ever make it to the finish line.

I usually work somewhere around 75 to 100 miles before the end of each race.
By the time I see these guys, they are so tired, stressed, and fatigued, that they dont even know their own name.
They have usually been tossed at least a couple of times, and are so tunnel visioned that they are running on pure instinct and determination.
All consious thought and ability to reason, left them hundreds of miles ago.
The only thing keeping them going is the commitment and desire "Take one for the Team" and make it through the end.

VERY FEW people can do it, survive it, and complete it, as a solo rider or driver.
It's just THAT tough.

You can take your Motocross Idols and think they are hot,...
But I'll admire these guys/(and gals) abilites, guts, and endurance, over the MX Track riders anyday.

If you've never been to one, you just can't imagine it.
If you want to see what You and Your Machine are REALLY made of, just try to make it to the finish line.
All claims of glory are decided there.
You've gotta see it one day.

there is a baja series, the first race is the 250, then the 500, then the 1000. i at least want to solo the 250 some time soon. i love that 700xx!! but there aint no way i would go out there on that stock raptor :eek2: :eek2:

EDIT: alright thats it. i'm ether selling my CRF250 and my spare 450r and getting a 700xx to baja, or i'm building my spare 450r into a baja bike! those bikes are sick!! but it does look like 450r's and Elka's are the baja material to use.

Thanks for the pics. One of these days I will go down and race Baja. Of course, I could race in the states all year for what I would spend on just the 1000!

Most will simply say they do not need them. Very few desert racers run them. I do, just because they have saved my a** a few times, but I am in the minority.

Most do not run a-arms skids as no one makes them for aftermarket a-arms. I have often thought have having a set made, but have never got around to it. Besides, in four years of desert racing, I have only bent one a-arm.

That is for sportsman also, just wait until you see what pro is! Also, that was for the 500 earlier this year, I am sure the 1000 is close to $1,500 for Sportsman, and probably close to $2,000 for Pro. The sad part is, the entry is just a small part of it, there is so much else you have to pay for. Desert racing is not cheap!

If you ever get the chance to watch one of those races take it! There is pretty much nothing like it. Having a trophy truck fly past you at nearly 100mph when you're standing 3 feet off the course is pretty exciting!

Years back, before I got serious into WORCS racing...there was some strong thoughts about building a Cannondale for the SCORE series. But, it never materialized. I'm going to built a Honda for WORCS, so maybe thats the new direction for the Cannondales.

I know theres someone on CannondaleRiders wanting to put a Cannondale into the 500 or the 1000...I lent some knowledge to them, but I'll have to check if there's anything new being planned on that.

Ok you want Trophy Trucks ? here ya go....

The first shot is about 300-400 feet down stream from the starting line, where they then do a 90degree turn, and blast out of town. (I'm standing right at the turn when I took the pic).

The following pics are after I moved 100 more feet to the right, and as they enter into that first turn.
yeah,... they are already hard on it, and sometimes they even clip the railing. It can get pretty wild...

So much cash, in just those pictures alone. Ha.

I loved seeing the top 10 TT's(and a Class 1) coming through San Felipe. Wish I could have stayed a bit longer.

That's my goal, to one day be driving a Trophy Truck down there.....I'd be content with anything below TT as well. ProTruck... Class 8... Class 10... Hell, TrophyLite.... ****, I'd drive a Class 11 in a friggin heartbeat. Ha.

Honda is just very popular in baja and desert racing in general for their proven track record and reliability.
