Ryan decided he wanted to hit the woods with me this evening for a chance at a deer. The wind has been blowing like mad all day so using our double stand was out of the question. So we just kicked back beside a big dead log overlooking one of our bottoms.

For almost 5 hours we sat and watched the wind blow, then finally 2 deer came in

He made me proud. Two small button bucks fed on the opposite hill for about an hour. He had one in his scope, safety off and ready to go, then slid the safty back on and told me he would wait for bigger bucks and that that one had some growing to do!:D

The 30 minute power nap he took was priceless.....I thought I might have to wake him up to stop his snoring LOL:p

My rifle has been silent so far.....haven't seen anything worth killing. Next week I will start putting Doe's in the freezer.

Thats all, nothing fancy and no big bucks yet. We hope to do some good shooting for our photo albums before the season is out!

Wind was howling all day here in NJ as well!

Anyways, pics look good! Looks like Cody's going big this year... better get a bigger freezer

Cody has pretty much been meat free for a few months.....sticking pretty close to a diet his weight trainer has him on. Good for me...dont need to work so hard for meat, good for him cuz he is getting big and health....good for the deer, they dont end up in the freezer or Cody LOL!

hey pap, what make model and caliber rifle do you adn your boys use for deer?

I use a Remington 700 Mountain LSS in 30/06 or a Remington VTR in .308 ...all depends on the stand or if I will be walking/stalking etc. The VTR is an awesome platform if longer shots are in order from a good rest.

Cody uses a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. It is almost the perfect deer caliber IMO

Ryan has a .243 (Remington 700 action on a shortened stock) but he has been using the VTR or Codys 08 more then his own rifle

Greg, I need a date so I can check my schedule

Josh- Ive killed rats with a .300 Win Mag....they go poof!

the best luck i have had is when i doze off and slowly awake and find deer in good range. but that doesnt seem to be the case in archery.lol

ya the model 700 are a fantastic rifle and personal favorite of mine..we have 4 different ones....if i dont get anything in archery here in pa, i use winchester model 70 .270 featherweight....fantastic gun. its very accurate adn it has done the job on every deer ive eve shot with it...

my brother uses a model 7 7mm-.08, which i used in bear this year..super light, nice to cary around, wouldtn mind having one in a 300 wsm for elk hunting...

im currently trying to to decide if i want ot purchase a new 700 vtr desert recon(desert digital camo which is new for 2010) in 308 or new 700 vsf of vl sf in 22-250 or 220 swift...just something to shoot coyotes with

Congrats, and welcome to the club!

Ryans best buck to date pictured below. Hopefully the wind lays down some here today and he will go with me this evening. I told him he can take a Doe if he wants this evening
