Well at the title says it bit the dust yet again... 3 red rings.. AGAIN.. Should I go get another newer one or should I go with a PS3 this time... I've had this unit ever since the 360 was released.. Have the changed or upgraded anything so this does not happen anymore?

I've had the rings once, haven't had them since knock on wood. I would contact customer service and raise hell to make them send you a whole new unit. Having it happen four times is B.S in my opinion. Also, the towel trick does work for about a month.

the real fix is to pull the heatsinks, pull of the rubber stuff off the chips and replace it with di-lithum grease/ thermal paste and to replace the x clamps with a screw kit such as this one

The refurb crashed about a year and a half after that and that's when all the news came out about MS admitting there was a hardware problem. They replaced it again for free even though it was out of warranty. The new one I got came with the new heat sink and I haven't had a problem in more than 2 years.
