I picked this R up a few months back, too good of a deal to pass up. So, I have been and continue to part ways with stuff I do not plan to use, and also buying stuff for the build. You know how that goes, seems like more money going out than my pocket can support. :P I am expecting this build to be completed in the next couple months, however the holidays and tax season never helps.

I've attached pictures of when I picked it up, to where I had it right before complete tear down and now finally how it sits as a bare frame. I decided to grind off all the unnecessary tabs, etc. It's much cleaner, and I also have a gussett kit on the way. All suspension and other parts are at the coaters and special powder colors are on the way. I will continue to provide updates, as many folks like to see these.

Stay tuned...

Dan

Can someone shoot a picture of their bike assembled, I want to know what the two brackets that I have circled in RED are intended to serve. Thinking of getting rid of it, but I forgot what these brackets are used for. I know the rear rezzie mounts back there with the guard, but what's on the rear?

Thanks,
Dan

So why the 400ex shocks and not the PEP's? What about the lsr a arms, looks like they have 2 different shock mounts

The shocks and arms off the first couple of pictures are gone. I have take off OEM TRX450R shocks that are revalved and resprung, however they were about 1" too long. They are going back to Derisi for shortening once the bike is set up so I can take some measurements. I think those arms were Denton Racing. I wish I had PEP's on this build, but saving nice LT shocks for the next build. :D

Anyways, the bike should look completely different when I'm done. :D

Thanks for all the replies guys. I just got my special powders...off to the coaters I go. :blah:

That looks like a good project. Must be nice to have a complete machine to bild from. I started mine with just a frame and a few other little things.

It was fun putting it together.

Here's a couple updated pictures of my frame along with troybilt's 1989. We ran into some speedbumps with the coaters going through ownership changes, however we are back on the right track. I spent 6 hours blasting and actually applied some of the powder on my frame and motor mounts. You can see the first picture taken from my iPhone.

The frames turned out great! Hopefully the other stuff will be done right after Christmas so we can get started on putting these back together.

Have you decided on a color scheme yet? Obviously you are going with a red frame. Will it be set up for MX, Dunes, XC or kept looking stock?

Well... I got some more parts to my build. My coater was able to let me work on all my parts again for this build, so it's pretty exciting to get first hand knowledge of the process. :D I know sandblasting parts and torching old powdercoat is a pain and can be mundane. But the parts overall turned out very nice.

There is a host of other parts from spindles, hubs, tank mounts, seat latches, etc. They are all boxed up, but I wanted to share a couple of the swingarms I did. The gold is going on this build and the black will probably be saved for my next bike. Now I just have to wait on all new bearings and seals I ordered. :(

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd228/danhung11/000_1839.jpg

Also, attached is a picture of my seat done by Cosmic Quads. Tammy was awesome to work with and the seat turned out very nice! There is a small dimple but it's because the foat was creased and it was cold. It came out after sitting at 75 degrees for a couple days and massaging it.

What color gold powder did they use on your swing arm?

How much was the seat cover? I emailed them a month ago on that specific seat cover and never got a response.

Post more pics of your parts!

Thanks again for the compliments.

What type of Laeger arms are you looking for? I just bought some new a-arms for my 250R and currently have a set of Laeger standard shock, +3+1 arms that will be for sale soon. Should have them off the quad in the next week or so. If you want more info, shoot me a PM.

Thanks Doug. I was close to coating the wheels gold too. I'm sure you can tell what color scheme I'm looking for. :D The powder color before the oven looked bright yellow and I was a bit worried. The plus 3's are too wide for this bike.

Thanks again for the wheels, they'll do the trick!;)

Jeremy

Troy - Thanks for posting the pics! We did make some great progress yesterday!

Jeremy - our thought was the adjustments would not be accessible putting the rezzies on the back, but if I took the shocks and flipped them around it would make sense and I could have the ressies on the back side. I have no clue what we were thinking. LOL!

Thanks again for all the compliments, looking forward to completing this build.

It's been a while, however we finally got some updates. Demands of work and personal life have really put the project down a few on the priority list, but she's really coming together. Everytime I see Troy's, it inspires me to work harder to get this thing done so we can go and rip up some trails. Things I still need to do are: Bleed Brakes, Jetting, and a couple other minor things.

I think they'll be fine, however I haven't ridden it yet. They are valved and sprung for me, but I ended up cramming them in there and will probably adjust them a little. The ride height is fine though. The rear shock is lacking more than anything, I plan to eventually get something for the rear.

Extremely Nice. Love the way it turned out!!

You gonna run a steering stabilizer or rear skid plate?

Also, before you put your chain on.... if you read the directions on the TM Designworks Chain Slider, it says the bearings in the rollers can wear out from pressure washing/dirt. I put some maxima waterproof grease on the inside and all on the outside of the bearings... hopefully that should help save the bearings for a while. The replacement rollers are $22!

Jason - time to build you another one!

Thanks for the compliments all. I do plan to eventually get a stabilizer on there. As far as skid plate for the rear, my swingarm doesn't have the mounts and it was hard enough finding an aftermarket 86-87 style. Good thinking on the chain slider, appreciate it.

Thanks for all compliments fellas, it makes me want to build another. :D. It literally took about 3 hours to tear it completely down three weeks before Thanksgiving and here's where we stand now. I am itching to ride, and sling some mud.

troybilt is running a plus one houser stem and I think he had to trim his bar pad with his IMS tank. I am running a stock length LSR with a set of plus one forward one Rox Risers I bought from DustinShuler, otherwise it would hit the tank. My tank is a Clarke 4 gallon. The setup I have clears perfectly.

Thanks for the updated pictures, and also twisting my arm to install that hood. It really looks good. BTW - looking at the rear end picture, I think I forgot to put the spring back on the rear seat lock knobs. It might be sitting on you table saw if you see it.
