this is not hunting and/or fishing so do not move it please :D

Hey guys and gals. recently my older brother has started getting into competition shooting. He has two glock 9mm's. We go to the range a lot, however, the only pistol i have is a .357 revolver. Fun gun to shoot but its loud, expensive ammo, and not practical. Im not really wanting to get into competition shooting but have a gun where i could put a few hundred rounds through it in a day and not think twice about it.

I have shot a million .22's. most recently a little old revolver that backfired and scared the hell out of me.

I was looking at .22lr pistols. they are fun to shoot. cheap ammo. throw away gun. quiet. etc.

anyone know of any good brand thats will run around $250 or so.

all i want is all black, ten or more round clip. common so parts will be easy to find. an all around good gun.

any links would be appreciated. :)

Taurus makes several models. The boys carry them all the time for critters being dispatched when they trap. 10 shot revolver, 6 inch barrel and it was around 250

Most of the semi's you find will be very accurate from Ruger and S&W and Browning. Most of these have bull barrels and will accept a pistol scope (halo or dot) and are used in mnay competitions.

Pick your poison and enjoy

i have hear a lot of things about the old S&W 422. however they are difficult to come by. i was thinking a little more modern because like i said, parts.

i seen the 22a and it looked like a common shooting pistol. any experience with it.

No I sure dont, I used a Browning Buckmark, but they are all very similiar in design and function. 22 Target shooting (pistol and rifle) are very popular and most models are quality driven so I wouldnt be afriad of buying any of them honestly.

Hit afew gun stores and handle a few of them, see which one fits your hand the best.

don't waste your money on a taurus, I've owned too many of them to know that odds are they won't be reliable. THey used to make a good gun, but for whatever reason (obama) they have been mass producing crap as of late and unsuprisingly their quality has taken a dump. The best all around pistol you could buy in a 22lr for a good price is any of the Ruger Mark III Series pistols. Best shooting most reliable 22 out of the box. I've been shooting them for the last 20 years. We have worn them out. Probably shot 20000 rounds through one of them. You would not be upset or dissapointed in this gun, and they also make a version that is for competition shooting.

I had a Ruger Mark II, was an alright gun. Stripping it down wasn't easy as most guns. I've heard good things about the Browning Buckmark.

I have a GSG-5, I would not buy another one. Overpriced and it jams after it get dirty (like 50 rounds).

i guess its just me being picky, i hate the look of the mk III. i guess a gun doesnt have to look pretty but still.

I thought the same thing when I bought my mark 2. It was the tapered barrel and the funny angle the grip was at. They do make non-tapered barrels and grips that come down at 1911 angles (called the 45 grip). Which is what I ended up getting

That's what I have, and I love it as a target plinker. Ruger mark II 22/45. Has a similar grip and the same control locations as a 1911 .45 pistol. Very reliable and accurate. Can be had pretty cheap if you shop around. I would suggest that, a Ruger mark III series pistol, or a Browning Buckmark. You can't go wrong with any of these choices.

I also picked up a new Walther P22. It's like a 3/4 scale P99 in 22lr. Doesn't have near the accuracy of the Ruger but it's just for fun and is awesome to shoot. Paid somewhere around 280 I believe.

I personally use the browning buck mark and absolutely love that gun for a 22 plinker. I use the one mentioned in this article:

http://www.lesjones.com/2003/07/23/melissa-learns-to-shoot-and-a-pair-of-22-target-pistols/

I have had great luck with this pistol and find it to be comfortable to shoot and just an all around great gun and I have yet to have any issues of any kind with this pistol, weather it be tiny or a huge issue.

....with a Kimber .22LR Conversion to throw in it when I wanna take it out plinking, and not roll through a ton of expensive .45. Ha

I have to go with the Ruger MKII. I've owned both the tapered & bull barrels & really liked them. No problems ever, shot great too.
You might find something here.

..I guess a helpful post would be nice too. ha.

I'd go with a Ruger also...preferably a .22/45. The 1911 Ergonomics will make it wonderful to shoot, and I personally think they are a good looking gun, especially with a fluted bull-barrel.

I like the sigs. My friend has several (not the .22) but I like to shoot the ones he has. Ive been with him while shooting a few hundred rounds and never any feeding issues.

The sig mosquito

I would second the mention of a SIG also.

I've never shot a SIG .22....But my current carry gun is a retired German Police SIG P225/P6..and I've shot a buddy of mines P229, and another friends P232.

Excellent handguns, very reliable, very nice shooting. I would assume their .22's would be equally as nice.

I bought a Browning Buckmark last April and I have never regretted it. I have put boxes of ammo through it this year and have never even had a jam. I even shoot cheap bulk ammo through it.

Unfortunatly, that is not the case. Do not waste your time/money on the Mosquito. Jam'o'matic. Very picky about ammo. Does not hold up to the SIG reputation.

I have a Ruger MKII model 678.
6 7/8" Heavy Taper barrell, with a custom Walnut grip and large thumb rest.
I could not ask for a more reliable, more accurate, pistol.
It almost gets boring to shoot because it is nearly impossible to miss whatever your shooting at.
Excellent choice in my opinion.

ruger MK II hands down the most reliable, easy to work on gun that has been out there forever, go with it
