I have a 88' still on stock bore in good shape. it has never been ported. I got it for a restoration because it looked so good but, then I just bought a new one. make a offer on it.

While a new stock cylinder is nice, an aftermarket cylinder is the way to go for the money spent.

That new stock cylinder would hang with a 300ex and get absolutely killed by a 450r.

Unless you spend some good cash for porting .

I guess I have three brand new boat anchors, I'd hate to get beat by a 300EX.:D

Not really, the 300ex comparison might be a little extreme but the fact is stock 250rs are slooowwwww in comparison with todays 450s !

I said stock .. Modified Rs can be really cool , I know because I have had quite a few..

He's right about stock versions in a way, but it takes an almost insignificant small amount of effort to make it contend with a stock-ish 450 in terms of peak power. I think the 04-05 versions put out roughly the same peak hp anyway didn't they at around 35?

Either way, the R even in the worst state from the factory is still a 2stroke making much more arm pull than a 300ex. You're right, that's not really in the realm of reality... With them so easy and cheap to improve, no one keeps it bone stock anyway. A pipe alone changes the power curve dramatically. ...I'd like to see a tally of people who have actually even ridden a fresh bone stocker.

As for the stock 88-9 cylinder, since I'm poking my nose in... is a fine cylinder for making nice power, particularly if a knowledgeable eye has spent 30 minutes working on the casting problems. Do the maintenance, like making sure the intake and the jetting is right, and it will run surprisingly well even with a stock pipe. Throw a midrange pipe on it and it's not a beginner engine anymore (like the factory originally tuned it to be).

All250R what do you mean
"no one keeps it bone stock anyway" I have a 86 that is bone stock and I mean bone stock. It still has the original piston and rings I think the only thing that has been changed is the plug, oil and gas. I was just riding it this past weekend. I know it will kill a 300ex and will walk all over the 400ex and z400 in stock form. It will not out run a stock 450r.

Are you actually serious? What did a 300ex come stock? 18-20hp. Don't you know crack kills!!

If I remember correctly the 300ex had 17 hp when they came out.

BUT lets get back to the topic this guy is looking for a stock cyl. I have a 88 that has never been ported and never bored and is still good at 66mm but I don't know what it is worth so if some members put in there 2 cents maybe I can sell some parts and he can get back on his quad.

Just remember you and only you are the one who got off topic on this thread. He said he was looking to buy a stock cylinder and you threw in your inaccurate comments.

Is it that time of the month again :),

they are 2 completely different machines, id like to see a 300ex do a 25 foot jump...
the point is when you say faster, what a straight line down your local street cmon, we all know the 300ex sucks as a quad, spend the few extra get a nice 400, into motocross? get a 450, like them both, get a R

my $.02

Wasn't sure, since I read they just stopped selling cases. I think Service Honda listed the late jugs for about $270
