Hi every one. Well i recently blew my 300ex motor up so i am looking at fixing it and selling it to upgrade to something bigger. So here is the question. Should i get a 400ex or 450r? I ride tracks at least once a week and hit up a small trail once a month. Ive heard good and bad things about both but not sure whats better in the long run. I want to get into a bit of racing this coming year but don't got big bucks to spend. Let me know some pros and cons of the two bikes and put in your opinion. Thanks in advance.

If you do any kind of racing, then the 450r is a no brainer ;)

Is it true you have to ride it hard and all ways rev it? For maintenance it just keeping the fluids up and cleaning the air filter and oil filter right? What about the vales iv heard some people talking about that.

The valves are gonna have to be adjusted regardless of what you buy.

Get the 450r. you wont regret it. theres nothing special you have to do as far as maintenance its just the regular stuff (change oils, coolant, clean air filter, lube chain) I would have my valves looked at at least once a year (especially if your gonna race) just to make sure everything is working properly.

P.s. 400's are good reliable machines but they are gutless compared to the 450rs

I just dont want to get into a big money hole if i dont know what to keep a eye on. Yeah the 400ex are great machines but just cant do all the same stuff as a 450r race quad.

This is true. You gotta understand in this sport in order to be competitive, your gonna have to spend money. you can have a 450 and not dump a ton of cash into it because for the weekend rider, a stock 450 is enough. But yes, the upgrades are whats gonna cost you money. The money spend for oil, filters, coolant ect just comes with the territory. As long as you dont buy a POS quad(abused race quad), your general maintenance will keep it running strong. All in all your gonna have to spend some $$
