does the 250r throttle have some sort of linkage in it that makes it a short throw throttle or are the 250r and 300ex the same, looking to find a easy pull short throw throttle for my boy has small hands and has a hard time pushing the throttle all the way

300EX/400EX should be the same. A lot of guys used 400EX throttles on their R's. A 450R one would probly work too.

I tried a 400EX throttle with a 38 PWK carb on my R. Yes it is easier to push but it would not open the slide more then 3/4 no matter how much grinding and tinkering I did to it.

Some tricks I have done to a stock 250R throttle:

1 Take out the return spring in the 250R thumb throttle housing.
2 Grind down or cut off a few of the coils on the carb slide spring
3 New Motion Pro cable all lubed up.
4 TRX90 throttle lever, longer then TRX250R lever and gives more leverage.

If you do all those the throttle is very smooth, at least it is for me. Carb I am running is a 38 PWK AS.

i heard of putting a trx70 lever on the 400ex throttle and it minimizes thumb fatigue.
