I bought a 2002 300ex from a buddy of mine a few days ago. I was riding through the woods today when my friend pointed out a crack in my header pipe. The whole thing is almost cracked in half. I was noticing a lot of back firing, and its really loud. I think the noise is being caused by the pipe crack, but what about the back firing? I plan on welding the pipe for now, but should I just buy a stock header pipe or should I go aftermarket, if so what kind? I was thinking about the FMF Powercore 4. What are your thoughts?

go with the powercore 4. it makes a world of difference over stock, and its fairly cheap

The powercore 4 is a complete kit right, includes a header pipe? And if I replace the pipe would the back firing stop or at least minimize. I know if I change pipes it needs to be re-jetted

i dont think the pipe will eliminate the backfiring. that has to do with the jetting. mine still backfires a little, but its not that bad. and yes it does include a headpipe wich is much larger than the stock.

the best possible kit that you can get for your atv is the white brothers e-series header and an HMF silencer. it was tested on the dyno and had the most power over any combination. i used to have one but sold it to my brother. it is so awesome for woods riding because most of the power gain is in the botom and middle end. it may be a little pricey but it is well worth the money.

he needs the header. the fmf is one of the only ones that have it. i dont know if the wb or hmf will fit with an fmf header

Yeah, the local weld shop guy offered to try to patch it up until i get my new header. Does it damage the motor to ride it with a crack in it?

yes it does do some minimal damage to the motor. i would recomend that you dont ride it anymore untill you get it patched up or get the new pipe. it herts the motor because the crack make an uneven force of preasure which will screw with your valves.

i have a tc pipe on mine do u think the hmf slip on with the white bros head pipe is better than that and do u think its better than the complete hmf set up??

yes, the hmf slip on with white bros e series header is a better pipe. its infact the best combo on the maket. the reasion why i hade it is because hmf never used to have a full system. so everyone went with the hmf slip and the white header. the combo is the best woods exhaust on the market because it helps the bottom end the most. but just the white bros slip on and stock header kinda makes it run like a 2 stroke. it loves the top end.

Dude what are you talking about? TC and Sparks pipes are the best available for the 300ex. Get your information

i said for woods riding. not the track. im talking about tight woods where the bottom end power comes in handy

I saw a video the other day of a guy who took out the plate and 2 screws under the stock muffler of a 300ex and he said it makes it louder and stuff. Is this bad for the bike?
