View Full Version : Calendar Pictures

We are ready for pics. Here are some suggestions for making this a great calendar.

1. Take a picture of your 250r in a setting you see fit. Set your camera to take the highest possible resolution photo with the finest detail, hopefully 1600x1200 or better (prefer 2240x1680 or higher). Submit your pictures to me, Beauch412@cox.net

2. The subject of the picture is your 250r, it has to be your R you submit. I will also say no models or people in the picture. Photoshopping of elements is not allowed. Also please don’t crop your picture and if you do, make sure to submit the original.

3. When submitting your picture, include your name, your board name, your year of R and engine size. If you have a preferred month(s), you can list that too, but no guarantees, just something extra to keep you in suspense.

4. Submit your picture by November 29th 2009 and everyone will be allowed ONE picture per person.

5. November 30th voting will start for the 12 main photos. We will have voting open for 7 days in which you can vote for your 12 favorite photos.

6. Once the voting has ended, the calendars will be set for printing.

7. Orders will be taken from the time of voting. We will order enough calendars for those that place an order and then a few extra for any late comers or if people decided they want more.

8. The cost of the calendar has not been determined, but hopefully we can keep it to $15.

So that is the info on the calendars.

On the topic of pictures, here are some hints to get a great photo.
1. Study the background and make sure nothing is distracting. So look out for signs, trees, fence post, anything from growing out of your R.

2. Make sure the rims are facing the camera, don’t turn the tire so that it points at the camera, make sure the rim faces the camera. It doesn't have to be completely sideways though, the angled shot looks great also.

3. Contrast, make sure your R stands out from the background.

4. Fill the frame, the subject is your R, so make sure it fills the frame completely, but not so that the R is touching the edges. It could get cut off during the printing process.

6. Even in direct sunlight use a fill flash, it helps soften the shadows and fills in some detail too.

8. Place the R so that the light is at your back. I find the best times to shoot are actually overcast days versus sunny cloudless days, of course it depends on what you want in the background too.

9. Have fun, just remember some of these tips and go get that great shot.

Also, action shots can be submitted also, you decide!

If anyone feels any information is missing or stated incorrectly, please let me know and I can make the appropriate changes

I wish I had an R worthy of a calender. Maybe next year, I'm right in the middle of a complete tear down and it won't be done in time.

I wish I had a better landscape backdrop. I kick myself for not taking a picture of it on the dune trip we went on. Anyone here any good at PhotoShop? :blah:

I agree. I'm sure lots of people have pics, but they weren't taken in the most ideal landscapes per the given requirements. Also, this is a crappy time of year to ask for recent/updated pics, as most are in the process of tearing down/rebuilding/updating, etc.

I'm not but my wife is good with photoshop... :)

I wish this could wait until spring, both our new quads would be done then too!!!

Can you take your 330 to that track you were telling me about and do a photoshoot there? Just curious. Yours definitely needs to be on that calender!

Guys, I'm sure everyone has some decent pics of their bike hanging around. And as far as a backdrop, try and find something simple like out in the lawn or whatever you think might work. I was trying to do something cool and different. Obviously, there will always be people in the teardown/buildup process due to things breaking and what not. If you don't have pics, then there is always next year, but I am sure there are enough people with pics that we could make a pretty cool calendar. I was just trying to start something that could possibly end up being something we do every year.

As far as requirements, I'm just looking for good quality pics, not something taken off your camera phone, that's all.

I've got 8 pics already and I know there are a lot of other people on here with some nasty R's that could easily be in this thing, including you Dan!!

Ok guys, I think I've got everything all set to go. There is one issue about voting who gets in though. When you set up a poll, you're only allowed 10 options and I think I've got 22 pics. So......what does everyone think? Any ideas how we can do this?

would it be too hard to just post all 20 pics with numbers then we could pm you our picks???

That's what I was thinking. Unfortunately, Pappy doesn't seem to be able to do anything. I'v tried contacting Fontmaster, who does qotm, but his mailbox is full and hasn't gotten back to me through email. So, here are the options I'm thinking of.

1. I post all the pics, then everyone writes down the 12 they pick and I tally everything up.

2. Everyone picks and either emails me or pm's me their picks so that no one knows who picked what pics.

Either way, I will not throw a pic of my bike in there and I will not vote. I will simply tally the votes so we can get this thing done and going. What does everyone think?

I'd avoid PM's, cause they only allow so many PM's and that might be hard to track and time consuming.

Works for me. You could label the pics to avoid confusion. Like A, B, C etc... or numbered. Might save you sometime cause then you can just copy everyone's answer and paste in a spreadsheet.

Im down with this idea!

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was gonna post them with a number for each one, then I'll just tally up the votes with the top 12 getting in. But, would everyone rather pm their votes so no one knows who's voting for who?

troybilt
12-02-2009, 10:22 AM
How about post your email and we email them to you, still confidential that way?

Also can I suggest that you don't get to vote unless you plan on buying a calender!! :D

Don't want a bunch of schmoe's screwing up the votes... :macho

[I] think pm'ing the votes in would be the best way to keep track of who votes for who like you said.

I agree with troybilt, that's sounds like a good idea. Your pm box will fill up fastzn so I'd go for the email option. Also if I buy 2 calenders does that mean I get 2 votes?? :) just kidding.

yeah good point. Could make them specify user name, and 1 vote per user name, etc...

EDIT: I'd create an "email" template so even one that sends in a vote's email looks the same i.e.

User Name: troybilt
Name: Troy
Vote Order:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
etc...

# Calenders plan to purchase: 2

Something like this maybe??

That's a good point! Also, another reason to use pm's, you'd have to be a member and logged on. And if I check 'em and clean 'em at least twice a day, I should be good. I'll leave voting up for at least a week, so everyone will have enough time to get their vote in. How's does that sound?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'm not too worried about it right now. I've got pics of a lot nicer bikes than mine. Hopefully, this will turn into something we can do every year and by the next calendar, I'll have some nice fullbores on her, then she'll look good. I just hate my plastics right now. Especially since some young buck showed up at the pit with the same damn thing......

Anyway, I'm gonna get everything all set up tonight and we can let the voting begin.
