View Full Version : other years of CR250 ignition?

OK, so I have heard that 2001 is the best year CR ignition to use. But what if a man already had a complete electrical system (I actually have the whole engine- everything) from an 2003 CR250- can it also be used?

Also, does anyone know if a CR250 cylinder can be mated to the 250R bottom end? This cylinder has the RC (servo powered) power valve system. Since nothing on this PV system connects to the bottom end it seems that if someone had the skill this power valve could be made to work on a 250R, if the cylinder works of course.

What about the TMX carb that comes on the CR250- can it be used?

So 3 questions here

-ignition
-cylinder
-carb

All from a low hour 03 CR250R

Anybody know??? Thanks in advance.

Yes the ignition will bolt up just like the 2001.

If you want the 2003 cylinder in your bike you will have to use the entire 2003 motor. Someone could probably be able to mate the cylinder to the cases but since the motor's intake is integrated into the cases it would not work on a 250r bottom end.

But the ignition and carb should work. But maybe you could adapt the servo pv to a pro-x powervalve but highly unlikely.

so are the newer years better than the 01?

I might be wrong, but I heard that the newer ones will NOT work. I'm not 100% sure though. I heard that after '01 there was some changes made........If you already have the '03 why not try it and just see.

Looking at the timing curves of an 01 and 02(which I assume the 03 is the same) no the timing curve would not be better than an 01.

I was going to mention but I am not 100% that the 02 up has a feedback system based no pv location, throttle position, and power jet. But since I am not sure how the whole system works I would not be telling you the truth. The stator and flywheel will bolt up to the 250r with the adapter plate from esr.

Thanks guys, oh yeah- I forgot its case reed vs. piston port, that would never work!

But glad to know I got some options with the carb and ignition.

I just got off the phone with esr, the plates only cost $79.

*** Note- if buying for your 250R be sure you check fitment and application with ESR before you purchase. *** Thanks!

Listing updated, hope that helps. Thanks

after 01, it changes...call esr and he will tell you why the 01 is used, for that reason, changes in the engine
