i would say go with an 06-07 because the 08-09's have 3rd gear problems in the tranny

there is a HUGE difference in power...i have both..

the 08-09s are better but like atveric132 said they have a 3rd gear problem that most likely will happen...so unless you want to spend $500 to fix that when it breaks with the atp gears i would go with a 06-07

I have an 06' LTR 450 for sale, it has full Titanium DR.D exhaust, fuel remap done, nerf bars, steering stabilizer, tag bars, and Houser steering stem, it has MX tires on the rear and holeshots on the front.I bought it last spring for $5800,rode it probably 7 or 8 times ,and just dont have time to ride anymore. will have pictures soon. I also have the title for the machine.

heres one by my house that i could get for 3000 ill try to get pic of it let me know if it sounds good to u guys

As long as the trails aren't tight, the LTR is nearly 50 inches wide. It also doesn't have much bottom end torque, they don't lug very well.

I love my LTR but, I don't ride trails. LTR's run as good as YFZ's, better than the new EFI YFZ's for sure!

My 08 spends all kinds of time on the trail. The 400 and 450 are night and day.

The motor is a good all around motor but the stock gearing will not be good for slow trail riding. You will want to re-gear.

ihave a kfx400(same as z400)
and i will sometimes ride it but when i get on my ltr it pulls so much harder than the kfx.

i do a good amount of trail riding with my ltr to just have to keep a eye out for rocks sence ur alot lower to the ground on the ltr

if your goin to build the motor up a lot go with a 06 because the 07 have weak cases

As already said for trail riding, go with a 13t front sprocket, put 20" rear tires on... Get an aftermarket swingarm skid. I put a PRM on mine, VERY heavy duty. After doing the usual, remove exhaust baffle, put on cherry bomb, take off air box lid and going with the one tooth smaller front sprocket the LTR has plenty of low-end torque. This year I put on an HMF slip-on, reviews said it gave the best low-end gain. And it did. Even revs a little quicker! Yes, the LTR is wide... But I've ridden my LT250R which is 50" wide for a long time and used to that width, so it was no prob for me. If you are used to a narrow quad then it will take some getting used to. But you will love the handling and stability. ;)

I just got a 06 ltr450 yesterday and let me just say its a great bike.. It was in like new shape with a few aftermarket items.. It has full HMF exhaust,Cherry Bomb and +2 front and rear.. It also has +2 stem.. I went from a built 400ex as listed below and it was like night and day. Its got all the power you could want.. I dont race and just like to have fun and this thing was a blast. We ride late at night and cant really get crazy in the woods but 2nd and 3rd gear are great. I had plenty of power to get me out of anything and just push me around everything. I was able to get 3/4 way into 5th gear but that was it but going down staight road . My frined had a 02 660 and we tried and tried to keep up but it wasnt going to happen. We started in 1st and he had nothing.. We started in 3rd going down the road and still had nothing. My thoughts are ltr 450 rocks.. I have had a few bikes. I had a 03 416ex, 05 450r, 01 660 and 01 banshee and all around i would say this is the better trail bike for me. I only weight 165 and its felt like it fit me.. Great bike and if you get you will enjoy
