400EX thumb throttle on a 250R

I would like to know, can I put a 400EX or 450R thumb throttle on my 250R or I must use the 250R one??

If I can't, Is someone have a 250R thumb throttle in good condition?

I'm running a 300ex throttle and works fine. I believe the 400 will work also. Not sure about the 450 though.

I solved that problem with a twist kit. I like it a lot better than thumb.

a 300ex thumb throttle can be attached to a 250r carb with the use of a Motion Pro throttle cable (p/n 01604). the 300ex throttle has a better leverage ratio making it much easier to use.

this was in dirt wheels magazine hot setups section july 2001.

does not say if the above mentioned cable is used for stock or aftermarket carbs. not sure if all carbs use the same cable. can somebody chime in on that

I'm not sure the exact number on the cable, but I know it's a special one to run the a/s carb.

As far as the 300ex being the hot set up, that's pretty funny. I had no idea. My bike came with a twist and hated it! Went to the salvage yard and just grabbed whatever thumb throttle I could find!!

either of the thumb throttles will work but when using them on a carb larger than a 36mm you'll need to do a slight mod to the bump stop located inside the throttle cover to allow the slide to open fully. otherwise, you only acheive 3/4 thottle and can potentially cause a lean condition at wot and burn a piston.
