lose of power

I own a 1995 polaris sportsman 2 stroke, and lately it seems as if there is no power. I can barely make it up hills now and the machine tops out at around 19 mph, basically it seems like it lost its umphh. Anyone know why this is?

was it ever smoking,doing anything else strange before and how long has that motor gone without rebuild?

It has always smoked but it's a two stroke, so I was told it is going to smoke. I have only owned the machine for 2 months and rode it once so I don't really know how long its been since its been rebuilt. It didn't act funny till I got it stuck in the mud and after that its acted up ever since.

I would do a compression test and make sure it has strong spark first not all 2 strokes smoke its the mixture that makes a good machine smoke you could have worn piston/rings now you need to cover The bases to get to the problem
