View Full Version : 300 ex electrical issues

ok, got a 300 ex from my in laws. no key, will only start if I jump the relay w/ a screwdriver. Also the battery goes dead as the nuetral light is always on. any ideas? Also need a frame as I realized it is bent. Got it for free, beleive it was a insuranse total loss thing, My in laws work for a towing company.

I think there is a red wire for the ignition key and its probably spliced together all you have to do is pull it apart and put it on a toggle switch so you just flick the switch to turn it on.....also sounds like you need a solenoid and you can get frames on ebay.

2005 400ex frame. will 300ex stuff mount to this frame. found it online cheap/ w/ tiltle

not easily but if you get a 400ex frame and put a 300ex motor in it God will kill a kitten.....

have the frames changed? what do I need to know before purchasing a frame, where do I find what year the one I have is?

Any 300ex frame would work between 1992 or 1993( the first year for the 300ex) to 2005 or 2006 (the last year for the old style of plastic). Newer frames would proably still work but the mounting tabs for the palstics may be differant. You could even get a 250x frame but you would have to make a new battery tray. The 250x did not have a bettery. If the sticker is not on the front of the frame telling the model and year it would probaly be easyer to tell the year by the color of the plastics and seat. If the plastics were panted there should be a color code under the seat on the frame next to the fuse box. I know not much of a fuse box only holds one and a spare.

If the seat is red with black writing on the side and it has all red plastics with white & yellow graphics and the plastic are original Than it is probly a 1996. Either way like he said all the frames are the same.
