Just wanting to know what you guys think, my guess is fox is going to best period, I want better suspension for the woods, I figure elka's will be just fine, they are some of the best. Just looking for suggestions, I was originally going to get an exhaust pipe but I think i'm just going to make my own.

As i found out a couple of days ago, i guess fox is not offering shocks for the 400s anymore from their site. you can still find them on ebay and some other places though. i would call them if you are interested. I would go with elkas but i like the looks of them more than the rest so it is a bit of a biased opinion. fox would be really nice since they adjust with air. axis are very nice also. not much help here but a bit of info anyway. lol. steve

yeah i like how the elka's look too. I figured fox shocks would be quite a bit more money. I plan on buying them used too so i don't have to spend 2 grand and up for suspension all the way around.

it will be pretty hard to find either used, if you go with an elka quad rate or upper end elka. it really depends on how much you have to spend and what type of riding you are doing. if i was going to get a new front end it would be a nice set of +2 arms with a set of quad rates. it would be over kill but nice non the less. steve

Dont leave out Custom Axis,Motowoz,Exit,Ohlins. When buying used shocks unless they say there revalved, you may have to end up doing that cuz chances are they wont be setup to your weight, arm type, and riding style.

I found a set of front FOX shocks on ebay for 700. So i may check back there when I get the money.

i wish i knew why they took them off of their site. they used to be on there. If i was going to get some of those, i would get the evols for the 450 and retro them to the 400. if you set them up for a lighter rider for a 450 with stock shocks they would be great for a heavier rider on a 400, it is the same principle of having the 450 stock ones resprung for your weight. I am sure it can be figured out to get the correct valving for the shocks. technically you could do this with any shock if you knew the differences. I wonder what everyone else thinks about doing this. steve

hmmm..... thats a good idea, I don't know if i'll be able to come up with the money for any good brand of new shocks so i'll probably just try to find a nice set of used shocks and have them redone for me.

it is easier to go that route sometimes. steve

another thought on the 450 shocks for posting purposes. if you get some +2 arms and 450 shocks sprung for stock arms on a 450 at 200 lbs it would be perfect. mod the top eyelet and you would be set. you might be able to find a set of used 450 shocks setup for a stock armed 450 at 200lbs and arms cheaper than a set of new shocks for the 400. just another bit of thought. i dont know if it would be worthwhile or not since i have not actually looked into any of this yet lol. steve

I don't really want make it any wider than it already is because I want to woods race someday.

that was an example for someone to read it and see if it would be good to do with a 450 shock instead of valving it different for a different weight rider based on a 450 then bolt it on a 400 to compensate for a different rider weight, i hear what you are saying with the width. the trails i ride it gets pretty close with trees and such as it is. i also have gates with spaces out of the middle specifically for atvs which i have to fit though, if i went much wider i would have a hard time. i had to really watch with the 1.5" spacers i had on it for a while totalling 3". they were nice until i got to really close tight stuff. steve
