alright guys i want to talk about this tusk clutch. it was installed brand new on my bike when i did the rebuild. it had about 20-25 dyno pulls and two trips to dumont both time i only made it up the hill a couple times til i ran into issues that ended the day for me. second time around was this clutch, it got smoke like swishersweet!

the clutch springs were new 250r HD springs and all fibers and plates were brand new. i have a lockout which i thought would prevent this from happening or at least prolong this. let me know where i went wrong? or was my mistake simply going with a tusk? im gonna be buying a new clutch soon, is OEM the only way to go for me?

here are the pics first three fibers are converted to steels lol the rest as you can see were about to break also...

Wow! That is some infusion. Not that this matters, just curious
to what tranny oil you are using?

i thought lock out clutches make your clutches wear out faster because they slip off the line till they get enough inertia to lock.

you might wanna try a heavier racing clutch with the dark synergy springs.

thats what I thought lockouts did too. Those plates do not look good at all. I have NEVER seen a set that bad, so fast and I used Tusk clutches in my 300.

How much free play was in your lever? Could have been riding the clutch a little bit but didnt know it because of the lockout.

slipper and auto-clutches do that, they work on centripetal force. Lock-out clutches are supposed to have no slip and engage right away and have alot of force engaging the discs. Alot of drag guys use lock-outs, because of no slip and positive clamping action. C-leigh posted the no slip 250r clutch setup, basically its oem 250r fibers, oem metals, 1 oem 400ex metal in the center, cr500 springs and aluminum stock cr500 washers or some kind of drain plug washers.

Why are you using 250r clutch pack on a 450r? Or is this a 250r we are talking about?

if i ran stock springs on this bike it wouldn't of even lasted what it did. bike is an all bore 500cc with plenty of power and tq. here is a pic...
