Once again, I'll be working the BAJA 1000 race next week.

On race day, (and through out the night), I'll be working my favorite post at the Acambaro Market, on Hwy 1, near the village of Urapan, race mile 598.82, about 74 miles from the finish line.

If you want to find me on Friday night before the race, Just look for me in Ensenada, anywhere between Anthony's and Paris Club !!!

This time there will be 2 or 3 rigs in our group, and I am considering taking my quad this time. (depending on if I can get the time to build a rear rack mount on the motorhome to carry it)

Is anyone else going ? Come on down, and I'll have a cold brew and a shot of tequila waiting for you !

I'll be down there. Pitting for the team of Chenate/Pethers/Sorchy....and whoever the other guy is, not sure. haha.

Seems I'll only be running chase for my teammate, Kyle Pethers. On sections somewhere between Ensenade and San Felipe. Not sure exactly where his sections will be yet though. Works out, because thats the only area that I know very well at all. Never been on the other side too much.

Look for the "ILBT2" family wagon, 155in Wheelbase, cargo van....also known as the Super Lurker.....or the Medium Napper. Hahaha

F A C T S H E E T (as of 11/15/09)
2009 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000
WHAT: 42nd Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race
Final event of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series
WHEN: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, November 18-22, 2009
WHERE: Ensenada-Baja California, Mexico (65 miles south of U.S./Mexico Border)
WHO: Over 350 entries from 39 U.S. States, and 14 countries, competing in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs
COURSE: TOTAL MILEAGE: 672.85 miles (6 checkpoints plus the finish line). Starts and finishes on Blvd. Costero, adjacent to the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada. From the start in Ensenada the course will go east to Ojos Negros for almost 40 miles which will be raced in both directions during the race. From Ojos Negros, the course will travel in a clockwise direction. From Ojos Negros, the course turns South to El Alamo and then east up through the Summit and makes a South turn at Cohabuzo Junction and on to the the infamous Laguna Salada, paralleling Mexican Highway 5. Next is San Felipe loop where the course will cover some of the rugged Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 course including the magnificent Matomi Wash.
After the San Felipe loop, which travels in a counterclockwise direction from and back to Borrego, the course will head north and northwest, joining Highway 3 for a short distance to the Mike’s Sky Ranch turnoff. Then the course heads behind Mike’s and around Rancho Las Truchas and Rancho El Coyote and down the challenging Simpson’s hill. From this point the course is very similar to the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 heading north along the Pacific Ocean below San Vicente and past Erendira, back inland up through Santo Tomas then turning northeast just past Uruapan winding its way back to Ojos Negros for the final charge back to Ensenada. In the Erendira area, the course avoids the rocky section along the Pacific, taking instead a high plateau east of that area.
This year’s race course will feature 6 outlying checkpoints where each vehicle is required to quickly stop before continuing on. The checkpoints will be located as follows: Checkpoint No. 1—No. of Santa Catarina (race mile 90.03), No. 2—West of Borrego (rm 213.27), No. 3—South of San Felipe (rm 309.80), No. 4—West of Borrego (rm 401.94), No. 5—San Vicente Vineyards (rm 535.32), No. 6—South of Ojos Negros (rm 631.25)PRE/POST RACE SHEDULE:

I will be arriving in Ensenada around 4:00 to 6:00pm on Thursday. We will be in a tan colored mid '90s, 37' Bounder Motorhome.
We will be parked in the Sunoco Fuel Pit, on the main drag, directly across the street from the starting line.
We are usually parked at the north end of the fuel pit fence facing the sidewalk.

upon arrival, we will check in with SCORE Ops at the hotel, pick up our assignment packages, and head back to the motorhome to drop off the packages.

After that, it's Party time, and we will spend the rest of the night hitting one fine entertainment establishment after another.
Our two main objectives are to sucsessfully reduce the local cervesa and tequila supplies, and to insure that the local dancers have been practicing and perfecting their stage shows.

sometime in the wee hours of the morning, we will stumble back to the MH to catch a few hours sleep.
at promptly 5am, we will rise bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed, and have some coffee, then more Coffee, then MORE COFFEE, and maybe grab a fine taco stand style breakfast. then we will walk across the street to the starting line archway.

the first motorcycle will leave the starting line promptly at 6am, followed every 30 seconds by the next riders. ATV's follow the bikes also at 30 second intervals.

Once the last quad leaves, we will return to MH, and pull out to head down to our post assignment at the ACAMBARO MARKET on Hwy 1, at Km marker #41, (race mile 592.45),
we should be arriving there about 9:00 or 10:00am, and will remain there throught Saturday night.

I will be wearing my Red ATVRIDERS.COM hat, and maybe my red shirt too. (or possibly a black SCORE hoodie sweatshirt if it's cold)

If anyone is going to be in those places, at those times, stop and say Hi. I'd love to meet any members in person.
If you'd like to hook-up, EMAIL me tonight through Friday morning, and I will EMAIL back with my buddies cell phone number that works in Mexico. (please dont flood my PM box)

Not sure if I should offer to do this, because I don't want it to going bad or turn into a big mess,
BUT... I'll try within reason,...

Since a couple of members asked me to do this last year,...

If anyone would like me to pick up a T-shirt or hat for them, let me know here by tommorow, and we'll figure out how I can make that happen. I'm thinking paypal me and I'll be happy to get you a shirt, and mail them out by next 2 weeks.
I THINK the shirts were $20 bucks last year, and I THINK the hats were $12 or $14
(keep it reasonable guys, I'm not going to be looking for special requests or specific team shirts),
It's easy for me to grab the SCORE BAJA 1000 race shirts/hats right at the starting line vendor tents, so if you want one, Pony up before I leave and I'll be happy to do it for you.

I feel that I should put a time limit on this, so I don't end up being swamped right before I'm trying to get ready to leave. So lets call the deadline time to be 9pm west coast time tommorow night.

I'm not looking to make any profit money , just cover cost of shirt/hat/shipping/ (and my kids future College Tuitions, LOL! J/K). I'll use flat rate usps.
So if that's good for you EMAIL me, (not PM), and I'll send you the necessary info.

Ron
