Has anyone here ever removed anodizing from aluminum before? I'd like to remove the red anodizing on an ESR head and water neck. Could it be re-anodized afterward? Although, I'd probably just polish it, as that will be much easier and cheaper since I can do it myself. Well, maybe not easier, ha.

I've done a little research... it appears that some have had luck using Easy Off oven cleaner or a crystalized Drano and water solution.

Anyone ever tried either of these methods, or anything else?

Any information would be appreciated.

i have used oven cleaner to remove the red anodizing off of not critical dimension parts i.e: stem clamps and cable guides. let it soak in oven cleaner for a few minutes and then wash under cold water. i have seen greased lightning also used. parts can be anodized after. anodizing is not cheap.

be careful about parts with critical dimensions (hubs and heads).
anodizing adds about .0005 to the part dimension.

Sandblasting worked for my Hinson cover.

As for the dimensions if the manufacturer of the part isn't retarded, they would not anodized surfaces where bearings/gaskets/etc go.. much like powdercoating...lol
