so as we all know, christmas is in a month and a half and i am going to do a 440 for myself. i have recently been asking lots of questions to learn some things so i can really make the best decision of what parts i want to put on. Long story short, i was looking at the JE 12:1 piston, and the stage 3 hotcam. would this be the same dynamic compression as the 11:1 with stage 2? Also do you guys think that is too radical? i want it to pull hard from mid-top so thats why i was thinking this setup. one last question, what octane would i run with the 12:1 stage 3?

Thanks for any info.

The 12:1 stg 3 will still have a higher dynamic comp then an 11:1 stg 2 build. I personally wouldn't do either one unless I was planning on at least upper 90's if not low 100's for octane.

The 12:1 440 with stg 3 would be a very strong setup favoring mid-upper rpms for power.

If building a 12:1 440, use atleast 100 octane fuel IMO.

i thought that would be the case, i have to go with the 10.8:1 cause i have to run 93. that would be ok, right? what stage cam, with this compression 2 would be the best IMO. what do you guys think. i guess thats why this is one of the most popular setups

they make good fuel additives to bump compression and not that junk they sell at autozone. I think its made by kemco, but if you live near a drag strip theyll usually sell cam2 out of a pump there if availability is the problem

there is an place i can get 110 but its a 20 min drive. maybe in a couple months when i get my license i could do that but i would have to go often cause i ride almost every weekend. i go through a tank every 1-2 weeks

you could run a 11:1 with a stage 3 and run just 93 pump gas like i do

i was thinking that but then the dynamic compression would be really low with the big lift and duration of the stage 3. thats why if i had access to race gas easier i would do the stage 3 with the 12:1 because that would be a stronger motor than 11:1 stage 2.do you guys agree or not, lemme know what you think.

All 3 cams are on the mild side. Take a look at Webcams and see where the stg 3 fits in their line up, it's no where near the top. Heck, it's smaller then their mid cam. If you're looking to have a fool proof pump gas machine go with the 11:1 with a stg 3 combo.

I'm doing the same build this winter. The idea started when I ran dynamic numbers on a bunch of cams and CR's. The stage 3 with my 88.5mm 10.8:1 piston kit works out pretty good on paper. I started asking everyone I could find that was running the stg 3 how it felt and the feedback is not that your low end is dead but rather it's good and the rest is GREAT. Between the reviews from people that actually have it and the numbers I came up with I'm sold on the idea.

i am pretty set on that now too. i am also going to p&p because i know someone that would do it for free.i think it will be a good setup.
