What do you think of tank bags on an ex...

Im thinking about it i mean I love the sporty style of my ex and dont wanna sacrafice it with a big rack or six pack rack. I love trails and get "agressive" on them but it would be nice to be able to bring a camera, rope, ect. Also if i dont want it on i can just take it off.

Any body have/use one???

Opinions appreciated (good or bad) because it would be nice to know before i own one and it collects dust!

(im looking at the tusk tank bags on rockymountain atv)

My wife has one on her 400EX and she likes it alot. I find it to hit my knees sometimes though when I tried it on my 400. It does hold alot of stuff though. We carry and air pump in it on one side and she still has the other side to put her smokes, small first aid kit, etc... Also it has a water bottle holder which is great. It will hold any kind of water, Gatorade, etc... Overall it is nicely built and pretty water tight. For long trail rides I think it is a benefit to have as a backpack gets heavy after a while. I will get one for my 400 as well for the long weekend rides we are planning for the spring.

i have used one a couple of times to carry maps and such with me. they are a nice feature but can get in the way once in while. especially if you start to get over the front a bit and start hitting the sides of the tank. I would get one that is thin and you should be ok to fit everything but it will stay tight around it so the stuff wont move around. just my .02 though. steve

Wow thanks for the input guys ... I would do the backpack thing but I have a camelback with a tiny pocket so it's kinda out of the question lol! I figured that there might be issues w knees hitting it but I'm sold!

thanks a million!

Here's mine, I love it, and it has never really been a problem being in my way. It is a Quadboss brand, and it holds its shape even when empty.

I did try the type that hangs off both sides of the tank, but found it to be more cumbersome and in the way. It was ok for slow trail riding, (no jumps, or wild stuff), but the top tank bag is MUCH better.

Here's one for when we do the full on trail rides with full cargo bags. (and yes, the rear racks and bags do come off for fast riding)...

Camp set up, many miles from the truck.....

But I do pretty much use my top tank bag ALL the time.
Smokes, camera, 2-way radio, snacks, first-aid, snake bite kit, etc.

that particular tank bag looks like a better top mount tank bag but i'm lookin more at the ones that hang on both sides because rockymountain only has this big over-sized one for bigger ute quads

and I'm only looking on rockymountain cuz they sent me 10bux off of $100 so it's a good excuse to spend $100 lol!

i like the bag that ron has, it stays out of the way nicely with it being on top. If i was going to buy one it would be like that. just my .02 though. steve

I would strongly advise against the side tank bags, if you are intending on using them during any fast style riding.
They flop around too much, get in your way, and will drive you nuts. For slow to medium mountain trail riding, they would be ok. use your 10 bucks off coupon with RM for something else, and go look here...
Here's a link to a good price on the QB tank bag...

I do also have one of these, You can get them at Pep Boys too, they are OK, but they are not as nice as the QB bag...

not tryin to bash any opinions (that's what I wanted after all) but I feel the side mounted bags would fit me more as far as the flapping that could be sloved by sewing on hooks and adjustable straps

I'm 5'6" so I wouldn't think the side bags wouldnt get in my way as much as the top mounted bag and I've heard complaints on top mounted bags jamming your hand into the throttle if you aren't careful bout turning right. I still appriceiate everyones 2 cents ... it will make me rich someday haha! ok bad pun aside this is great feedback

The bags on my wife's have Velcro on them to keep them from flapping.
