What are everybody's thoughts on the GT Thunder max ground clearance swing arm skid plate? i'm in the market for something, because i can't keep running without one, but i have a GTT xc link. the notch that's already in the GTT skid is making me lean towards it.. and it's only $59.99. can anybody shed some light on this? pros and cons of the gt thunder steel skid vs a .25 aluminum skid? thanks in advance.

i'm thinking of getting one too. Steel may be a little heavier than aluminum but its a whole lot stronger.

that's what i'm wondering.. the steel is much thinner, but it gives more ground clearance and already has the center cut for the link. thin steel vs thick aluminum..

even though the steel is thinner, it'll still be as strong if not stronger than the thick aluminum.

Steel is roughly 3x as strong so if it's at least 1/3 the thickness of the aluminum skids you should be good. I need a skid as well, was leaning towards a .25 aluminum skid.

yep, i think it's at least .1 or .125. can i ask what's pushing you towards aluminum?

Well i originally wanted the durablue plastic skid because thay would slide over things easier, and will not stay bent like some thinner aluminum skids, but it's way overpriced. I'm not really focused on aluminum, just this gtt skid you guys speak of is new to me. Maybe I will look into it.

i decided to go with the GTT skid because of the ground clearance and the convenience of having the section already set up for aftermarket linkage. i'll update somewhere on here once i go riding.

Good choice on the steel skid. They hold up MUCH better and if you were to crack it, its much easier to find someone that welds steel vs aluminum. Or if you have a welder you can do it yourself.

i made my own out of 1/8 steel and its been on for two years no problem, plus its cheaper then buying one
