I keep the battery charged but no matter what a battery does not last more than 2 months and it is beyond dead to where I have to push start it or jump it. I do not have any cut wires or loose grounds if any one has any idea please let me know:mad:

use a multimeter and check charging voltage at the battery....it should read around 13.2 at idle and 15.0 at 1/2 throttle

first start you bike and while its running disconnect the battery if it shuts off you have stator (amp) problems probly, if it stays running you have a bad battery which could be a number of thing from a bad cell to a short that drans it bad check your switches and dont use any aftermarket lights ect

I will do that tonight before I start tearing it all the way down. Either that or wait until next month when I get everything back

Ive noticed when i have a 2001 honda 350ES, it didnt get a lot of riding done to it, so maybe the odd day outa the month I would take it for a ride, and because i left it for so long the battery wouldnt hold its juice anymore. So maybe you have the same prob, ride it more often if u dont already.

It is a 2002 400ex. And no key being left in it:huh I ride it fairly often and make sure that I put a charge on it every 2-3 weeks

i had a problem similar to yours..i would ride for a long time and no problem, then the very next time i rode the battery was dead. a freind of mine thats good with electronics found the problem. there is a series of wires that go into the voltage regulator. one of them is the charge wire. it had some how come loose and was making contact only part of the time. so sometimes it charged and sometimes it didnt. might be something to look into..i dont remember which color wire is the charge wire though.

Ive got a $35 battery buddy and keep it on from the time i stop riding to the next time i start it.I have a 2000 400ex and the battery is perfect. It keeps the battery at full charge and then just maintains it .

Thanks for the idea abotu the charge wire I will have to look into it. As for a battery buddy it would work but I already have a charger and it is not that. The battery will be s@#t in a week even if it is brand new. I am pretty much positive I need to chase wires
