well i just put a lrd pro 4 slippon exhaust on and a set of maxxis razr tires today and rejetted it. it runs great but since i put on the maxxis tires on the stock rims they are bigger than the stock tires and now i have no low end. all i do is trail ride so i was wondering what i could do to get more low end??? drop a tooth, add a tooth, i dont really know i just want some low end power. ANY INPUT IS HIGHLY APPRITIATED!!! THANKS

i would drop a tooth in the front sprocket and then you will have scary quick acceleration but you will lose a little top speed

I THINK I have this right...
'04 and earlier are 15t stock
'05 and later are 14t stock

You can get sprockets at your local dealership, ebay, or any of the many online parts houses.
Just make sure you buy a steel one and not a aluminum one.

not that much if you went with a taller rear tire. The larger diameter will make up for some of it.

I dropped a tooth in the front and love it. It's the only way to go for trail riding. You could also drop a few teeth on the rear to gain some top end back.

going down on the back gives you more top end. you pretty much balanced it out. your fooling yourself

he even went too far so it has less low end lol. he made it go about 2 miles per faster but it will be a bit slower taking off. he should be at a 33 with that 13 and it would be the stock stuff equivalent. with the 32 he is lowering the gear ratios instead of raising them like the 14/38 does compared to a 15/38. steve

I was thinking about pairing my 14 front up with a 37 or 36 rear. Would that be too much?

it depends on "what" you want to do with it. to lower it more it would be counter productive since you would be going the wrong way. to get it inbetween your 15/38 and 14/38 go with a 14/37. that would give a tad more top end than you have now but you will lose a tad of low end torque. steve

before 05 it was a 15/38, after i think it was a 39 with the 14. no prob on the chart and calculator it is fun to mess with once in a while. steve

That's what I thought too. I'll go check mine right now. I know it's -1, just not sure from what.

Yeah, mine's a 14t so I think the stock for the '05 is 15.

what is the stock rev limiter at? so i can put in that calculator that steve gave us(thanks by the way) and see what i should have cause i THINK 8250 is lower than stock.

I remember reading somewhere that the stock rev limit for the '99-'04 is 9100. Not sure if they changed in '05 or not.

So steve, what would you say is the best setup for trail riding?

if you have a wide range of trails then i would go with the 15/38, if the trails are really tight and slow then def go with the 14/38. it will make the machine more fun to ride and wheelie with teh 14. not that the 15 wont let you cause it will. the 15 is a bit faster so it is easier to cruise at 25 mph or faster on the trails. if you are looking to go undeer 20 then go with the 14. For performance wise i would go with the setup i have in my sig for a great trail machine that will keep smiles on your face for years. it is as fast any other 400 if not faster than the majority. I have beat a few different setups with 11:1 and some other stuff. just my .02 though. steve

Listen to this guy he knows hat he is talking about!

I had a 14, which is stock on 05,06,07,08,08 (ha to be clear),and on the trails first gear was to low and 2nd to high so i wanted my first to be my main trail gear so I put a 15 tooth. Its better in my opinion

Id say a 13 tooth your looking at 2nd gear as your major trail gear and with a 15 1st gear. for 14 I was switching back and forth to much.

I like to wide it out at times to so 15 is perfect right now. may go back down when I get my new tires

Are you sure 14 is stock on the '05s? I'm running a 14 now and the guy I bought the bike from said he dropped a tooth in the front.
