Hi,

I just purchased a 2005 TRX 450R and I have a couple of quick questions: (I havent had a chance to pick up the manual yet)

1). The stock handlebars have been replaced with bars with a pad and the key has been relocated under the hood. On a secondary bracket from the handlebar mount is a red light. I am assuming that this is a oil pressure light? Is it normal for this light to be on for a second or two when the bike first starts up?

2). The kid that I bought the bike from says that it has been bored to a 480, and I can see that the pipe has been completely gutted. He also says that the carb is properly jetted for the changes made. The bike runs REALLY strong, keeps up with my brother's 2009 fuel injected YFZ 450R. What should I look for or how can I tell that the carb is jetted correctly?

3). Is there anything that I should look out for regarding the bike itself? I have never owned a 450r before and I am not familiar with 4-strokes at all. I have a 250r but it is much different. Any pointers will help!

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Red light is a temperature light. It's supposed to come on for a few seconds when starting.
Only way to know if the jetting is right is to open the carb and soo what is there.

Welcome! If the bike runs well through the gears and all RPM ranges, it's probably jetted correctly. An easy way to tell is, run the bike at WOT, shut the engine off. Pull the plug, color should be mocha to light brown. Good luck! :macho

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I am going to change the plug and do the WOT test. I have a manual on order. Any known problems that I should look out for?

Keep a clean air filter on it at all times to keep the valves in good shape, and change both sides of the oil often.

Thanks thats great advise. I just changed the oils yesterday. What is the deal with the crankshafts on the 450r's? What signs should I look for? As far as the valves go, the quad starts up on the first kick, but it does pop a little on deceleration, but the pipe is totally gutted, so is this normal? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks again.

Yea, DEFINITELY keep your air filter clean at all times, and change your oil religiously! The motor will last forever...
