Hey i just got a 06 ltr with a Moto works slip on exhaust, and a cherry bomb. When you start it, it takes a while you really have to crank it over for a while and hold the throttle about half way. The exhaust will spark a couple of times and will eventually start. Once its started it wont idle you have to keep on the throttle. Any ideas? I have no idea how to raise the idle on a fule injected quad, and no idea why it takes so long to start.

theres a big brass screw on the side of the throttle body on the fuel pump side that is the idle.

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is stuck partially open and you do not have enough fuel pressure to the injector. Get yourself the manual on the quad from suzuki and you will be able to find and work on the regulator. FYI the pressure regulator is mounted on the underside of the tank.

Hey i messed with the brass screw and got it to idle fine. Once the bike is started it runs fine. Its just when you go to start it, it takes forever, you have to keep chopping the throttle and it will start up eventually. Also it starts alittle easier after you ride around for a while. It cant be the reulator beacuse it runs fine once its started right?

check intake valve clearance
intake valves might be to tight and hanging open.

"mine did the same thing back fired and wouldnt idle when started"

u could put a smaller shims in it but u might only get anouther 5-10 hours till it does the same thing again.

i had this problem a couple months ago shimmed it once then went to shim it again and the valves where cupped so i just desided to put new valves in it.

I got the bike with vp in it so i was wondering if it could still be the regulator? Would the bike run fine once started if the regulator was stuck open with a peice of the fuel filter?

check your valves before u put more money in it than u have to. i know that is your problem.
intake vavle clearance should be .003-.004

mine held for about 10hours then was ruff to start again.
just buy new valves. i just bought kibble whites intake valves and they where cheap only $40 each and if you hav the stock stainless steel valves already in it u dont need the kibble white valves spring kit unless u have a big lobe cam (stage 3 cams)

rocky mountain atv
like i said u dont need the KW valve spring unless if u have a big lobed cam or if u have titanium valves in it now. but if they are stock they are stainless steel so u would be good.

Hey i checked the clearance over the weekend, they are definitely tight. For the intake i couldn't get a .1mm under at all. I need to get another set of feeler gauges because .1 was the smallest i have. For the exhaust side i could just force the .2mm gauge under. Should i shim both the intake and exhaust or just the intake. What number should i be trying to get to, like for the intake do i want .2mm or .3mm? Also where can i get shims from, i don't feel like ordering a $80 kit.

any local atv shop but its is just easier tom buy the whole kit. and the clearance should .003-.004 is close but .005 is fine too. just buy new valves and the kit it maqkes life easier

I checked all of the shims and they were all the same 338. Dose the hotcam shim kit have any shims smaller than this? If i order new intake valves do i need to get the springs also and do i need to get the seats cut?

hot cams will have smaller shims.
if u are replacing the stock ltr valves or any stainless steel valves u will not need the kibble white valves spring kit unless if u have a huge lobbed cam (stage 3)
and yes u will need to seat them. its not hard me and my buddy did mine just bought lapping compound at adavanced auto and a lapping tool.
