For me, it seems like yesterday we were all in Florida about to kick off this season. Many miles have been put down as we traveled from state to state to participate in the series along with countless hours of work just to afford going to each round. Toughing out all 12 rounds is an accomplishment in itself....

For Bill Ballance, this marked another year in his career and at this point, there was no official word on whether he would return for 2010.

For the Can Am team, it would be another round that remained up in the air as the team struggled to keep things pointed in the right direction in the XC1 class.

Chris Bithell has been making progress and having some successes while Brent Sturdivant continues having problems keeping his machine running till the checkered flag comes out. A ton of work has been piled into these programs and failure just seems to hit you double hard.

Mark Warnert chuckled as he told me that "If we could get the DS's running like our morning UTV's...we would have it made".

Its been a long season for everyone and I think a few riders are happy to see it come to an end. The off season for several will be filled with change.

Brandon Sommers gets ready to get settled on the line prior to the start. Sommers has been charging hard all season and you can usually find him arriving at the track with a very muddy quad showing he is putting in the seat time needed to run up front.

Ockermans Yamaha gets the royal treatment as it is carried into position for the start

Pappy
10-29-2009, 06:52 PM
Chris Borich's mechanic said he wasn't carrying Chris's machine :p

Pappy

Bill is smiling because deer season is upon us;)

Pappy

Jarrod McClure gets ready for another rough race. There will be some big news coming out of the McClure camp in the coming days......

Pappy

Bryan and Bonnie Cook ham it up for Foley. The pair will have a busy off season as well and Bonnie should be giving the world another rugrat here shortly!

Speaking of new kiddo's, Santo Derisi was blessed with another child born roughly six weeks ago. Congrats to teh Derisi family, I know you guys are mighty proud!

Walker Fowler would be giving the XC1 Pro class a go this round as a teaser. From what I hear, Fowler will be running XC2 in 2010...but anything can happen before round 1!

I did not even get to chat with McGill this round, I did take his girl friend cruising though:o Sorry Adam, but when your my age you dont pass up a chance to cruise the pits with a hot chick:blah:

McGill has had a solid season but did not finish where he wanted to be in the points. Hopefully next season will find him back in the hunt as he remains a fan favorite and one of the most interesting XC1 riders the series has!

Pappy

I see the girls of Indiana know what to do when Foley approaches...run up a tree out of his reach:devil:

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:08 PM
While Harlen was rubbing elbows with everyone, I headed off to the creek bottom again.

Yeah...I was ready if he fell in:blah:

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:10 PM
I could hear the roar of the XC1 class echo into the creek bed and knew it was on!

Bill Ballance would once again put his Yamaha out front as he grabbed another holeshot.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:12 PM
The riders approached the creek for teh first time and took a gaurded approach. Bill looks to his left and that was indeed the shallowest line through it

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:13 PM
Borich was wanting to go and took his Suzuki head on into the creek

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:14 PM
Bill kept the lead as Borich did not make a charge and they raced out of sight in the order they had arrived

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:16 PM
Bills lead did not last long as Borich would make a move, but as you can see, there wasn't any room to relax as the front runners were nose to tail

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:18 PM
Fowler getting his feet wet (literally) in his first Pro class race

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:19 PM
Bithell wasnt up front, but he wasnt far off and was in a great position as the first lap was run

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:20 PM
The hillclimbs at the ironman can test you, hit them with speed and pick a good line and you'll make it. Walker Fowler gets airborne off some roots at the top of one line.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:21 PM
There is usually plenty of help if needed....

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:22 PM
The hillclimbs and creek are fan favorites and the steady stream of spectators is non stop during the race

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:26 PM
This round has to attract the most spectators of any round....

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:28 PM
Making it isn't garunteed.....

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:30 PM
The fans get involved in abig way here....and if they didn't, these hills would end alot of folks days or worse.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:33 PM
The racers approached me and it was McGill leading the charge!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:34 PM
The top 5 or 6 were running close and I knew the battles in the fields had to be good!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:35 PM
The action was good as always in the XC1 class, you can usually count on seeing solid racing no matter what riders are in front of you.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:38 PM
Johnny g rips through and heads off after those ahead of him. This was his type of race and I was hoping to see a good showing from him.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:40 PM
McClure stalls it in the creek but was soon back on teh gas.

It was soon after this that I had heard about Brandon Sommers wreck. Sommers was down hard and Brent Sturdivant had pulled over and stayed with him until help arrived. Sommers suffered a broken leg below the knee and was soon in a hospital room being prepped for surgery. I am happy to report that he is doing well and has already riden a quad:p

Cook drops the hammer as he exits his pit.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:43 PM
Ryan Lane was putting in a great ride and it looked like he had a shot for the podium if he could keep up the pace!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:44 PM
Chris Bithell as well was now in the top 5 as the laps counted down

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:45 PM
Borich had clawed his way to the front and was now in control

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:46 PM
Kiser was pushing hard as well, every point could play out here at the last round for several riders

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:47 PM
The wind and sun had helped alot in the field sections, and the racers could make up some ground. Jeff Pickens was movin' out!!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:54 PM
The creek was keeping everyone nice and wet:p

Pappy
10-29-2009, 07:58 PM
Kirkland was having quite a bttle in XC2. He needed to finish 8th or better to take the XC2 championship and he would see his position change all day long.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:01 PM
These hills werent near as big as the others, but they provided enough of an elevation change after being soaked in the creek to be a handfull.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:04 PM
Rob Oakley couldnt take a break even when there wasnt a hill or creek to tackle, ruts were deep and roots were doing a great job of putting a pounding on the riders.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:09 PM
Shawn Javens well on his way to his 12th win of the season in Senior B! Great rding!!!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:13 PM
Ballance heads out for the final lap, in a solid position to take second

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:17 PM
Sturdivants day was done as I caught him on the way to the finish line. he had the flu bad and probably should have been home in bed.

It showed a ton of character staying with Sommers, its one of the reasons I am proud to call him my friend! Brent, you may not have a winning season, but you just became a champion to alot of folks.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:19 PM
A mud and water filled two hour battle was now complete as Chris Borich locks up another win!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:21 PM
The torch is passed.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:23 PM
Ryan Lane had indeed put in an impressive ride that earned him 3rd and a trip to the box!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:24 PM
Ballance had done what he needed to do and would finish second. he would also announce that he would be back for a full schedule in 2010!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:26 PM
The day however belonged to Borich who would mark his first win as the XC1 Champion.

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:33 PM
The racing action wasnt over with the UTV race on deck.

Yokely would battle for the lead right from the start but would find some trouble very early and would sit the majority of the race out

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:34 PM
The action is always intense when these rascals get moving!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:35 PM
The Polaris Razr is the go to machine it appears!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:36 PM
Whitney Houston, we have a problem!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:38 PM
Pit stop for a flat tire....no comment on the plumbers crack

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:39 PM
I will tell you that racing one is alot more fun then watching them:p

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:40 PM
That aint a good sign!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:46 PM
Now there was a winner...then they said the team wasnt and I havent been told who won anything:p

It sure looked fun and expensive for some!!

Pappy
10-29-2009, 08:50 PM
Thats about all I have for you folks. My laptop decided it wanted to screw with me so I had to get Foley to upload watermarked images for coverage but he did not send all the images:(

Josh Kirkland indeed finished where he need to and took the XC2 championship. That was one well earned title and he will be a strong rider next season for sure!

I want to thank everyone for another great season of racing and I look forward to seeing many of you during the winter break as we dwork on stories and such (and eat all the fine food and drink all teh cold beer I know you have!!)

I hope everyone heads into the holiday season with the best of wishes and alot of quality time with your families. For those I wont get tos ee, Happy Thanksgiving, merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ya'll!!

Pappy OUT!

Pappy that was Ockerman's quad being carried on the start line. Bill doesn't run a Rekluse, or HLS. and Bill's quad has a blue frame.
