I'm looking to pick up a bike for my girlfriend. She has ridden a 250ex before but only for a little while before the trans took a dump on us. What do you expect for a 500 follar bike lol. I let her ride my 400 ex while I had it a little. She was only on it for an hour or so but couldn't get shifting 100 percent.

So she has been busy with work and school for a while but finally has time to ride again so we are looking for another bike for her. I immediatly looked at the 250s again. I see some nice 03s going for about 1300 and a decent 06 for 1500 (w sport clutch).

Then I thought of getting a cheaper full manual bike to see if she can learn aka the 300ex. Found a clean 97 for 1k. If she can't ride it I can sell it and grab a 250. Or. 400ex for 1500? Its a different class of bike for only 500.

Or do I just go full auto and get a scrambler. I don't really know much about them.

Thanks

if it were me i'd get a scrambler or any gen 3 polaris 250/400/500 there all great quads cheap for parts and can take all kinds of abuse i've had many of them and they will do about anything

i can only vouch for the 250ex since i have one
i have an 07 with a sportclutch and i think she would love it as long as she has shifting basics down pat and as she gets more used to it she can learn to use a full clutch and then be able to go onto a bigger quad

if you have any questions, ask me:cool:

You have to keep in mind this is for HER and not you. While YOU may want her to be hard core and ride a 400, she probably could care less.

I know for my Mrs, the only difference between the 250ex and the 400ex is that the 400ex has an annoying clutch. She will never be riding to the point where the 250ex will not be suitable for her abilities. She isn't doing high speed wheelies, popping the clutch to spin the tires, going rather fast, etc. She just likes to putt around with the kids.

In the end I am glad we went with the 250ex for her. If we got her a 400ex, she would be annoyed by working the clutch (especially with the kids at times), and she wouldn't be into riding nearly as much. I'd rather her be comfortable, riding slow, having fun, riding all the time with me ... instead of uncomfortable, not having fun, and never wanting to go ....

depending on her age and her stile. If you ever think she will get agresive at all then leave out the polaris.

250ex and 300ex are both great machines...you can't hardley go wrong and there are plenty of upgrades for them. Left stock the 300ex motor will last a long time.

i say get her a 300ex...she'll learn the clutch in time and she will have more fun on it...it will be a little easier on her to learn since it don't have the "arm ripping" power of a 400ex...
