i have an oppurtunity to buy this welder which supposedly has only been used 6 times for about $250....says it will run off 110 house outlet....a generator should definetely power this correct? any recomendations ? http://www.tractorsupply.com/welding-metalworking/welders/mig-welding/mig-welders/hobart-handler-140-welder-3812040

It will work on a gen. but remember that the gen must put out twice the amps you are trying to run.

i finally got the chance to use a hobart 140. i prefer miller's over lincoln's, and i felt that the hobart could almost keep right up with the miller 250 i usually use.

I looked threw the add for the welder but it didn't give a amp ratting for how much it draws at full power.
You need this to know if the generator will run the welder.
You may need to go to the manufacture to find out.
Yes its 120 volt but at what amperage? It doesn’t say. And it doesn’t give you the wattage the welder needs.

A lot of it depends on how high you run the welder and how long.

Say your welder needs 120 volt and uses 3500 watts at 30 amps.
Then you need a generator that puts out 120 volt and puts out 7000 watts and has a 30 amp breaker.

I hope that makes sence.
